downloaded via Opera through McAfee no prob's reported.

running on Win-7 core-7 (gen 1) on a nvidia 770

Will report anything if I see it.

Edit First observation: WU startup takes 141 sec's compared to r3500's 28 sec's

I suppose I'm beating a dead horse here (although I sincerely hope not), but once again the device-specific configuration files appear to have been omitted from the installer. I've previously raised this inconsistency in the treatment of configuration and command line files regarding AP, but with SoG we now have the same problem with Multibeam.

A relevant section of one of the Multibeam OpenCL ReadMe files states:
For device-specific settings in multi-GPU systems it's possible to override some of command-line options via
application config file.

Name of this config file:
MultiBeam_<vendor>_config.xml where vendor can be ATi, NV or iGPU.

IIRC, dummy configuration files get distributed with the stock applications, but so far those files haven't carried into the Lunatics installer. The upshot of that is, if you're already using one of those files, it'll get wiped out of the app_info by the installer. Or, if you're not yet using one but decide to do so in the future, you'll have to manually edit it into the appropriate places in your app_info. That negates what, to me, is the main benefit of the installer, avoiding having to manually edit app_info, a sometimes dark and scary experience.

A problem seen with beta4 - r3500 told BOINC Manager it only used 0.16 of a CPU, but it actually used closer to 1.00 of a CPU. Beta5 makes the same claim but also uses much more than it claims. This causes slow console response. at least under 64-bit Windows Vista, if you expect 1 CPU core to be shared between GPU tasks and any console operations.

. . There is a lot of information about this in Raistmers threads.

. . But if you use sleep, ie: add the following command to your commandline file, this will break the CPU hold and let it run only parttime to support the GPU task.

-high_prec_timer -use_sleep

. . I hope that helps.

Stephen

.

I'll try that. Currently, Beta5 appears to be trying to use more than a whole CPU core, and therefore cannot keep the GPU busy.

. . I find app_config.xml a much less scary place to do configuring.

. . If you address your concerns in the SoG_v8.19(r3528) support thread Raistmer has started he may answer your concerns when he is able. But most of the info you need is covered in the now closed, but still readable, thread V8.12 support. Look for messages with command line options to tweak the performace of the app. The defaults are pretty successful but there are things like -period_iterations num and -tt. The default for the iterations is 50 but you can try dropping it to boost the GPU utilisation, or increase -tt from 500 up to 1500 but it can cause lag in your user interface doing these things.

. . But there is a great deal of info in those threads.

I can't even download it myself using Chrome, but I suspect the reason is, in Google's words,...

Just for info:

No problem to Download by:

Hi guys,

Since i ran Lunatics_Win64_v0.45_Beta5-for-SoG_setup.exe on top of my old lunatics setup ( overwritten it ), i'm not receiving any GPU WU's anymore, for about 2 days.
CPU wu's are cruching fine.

Anyone else with this problem? ( Win10 x64 )

Or should i just re-install boinc completely?

Re-installing BOINC should never be necessary. Since it's a Beta test, let's try to debug it.

Can you remember which application choices you made? There are four screens, and two sets of choices on each screen:

CPU
ATi
NVidia
Intel GPU

Astropulse
MultiBeam

How many of the eight possible apps had you chosen for your previous installation? How many did you choose this time?

I assume this is your Xeon E5-2670 with GeForce GTX 980: I see that you have received GPU tasks on 12 October, like task 5214530541, and processed them using the r3528 application: Beta5 is the first Lunatics installer to include that version. So, could you please click the 'update' button on the Projects tab in BOINC Manager (selecting the SETI project, of course): then open the Event Log, and post the entire block of Event Log messages associated with the update here for us to try and investigate.

Oke, i did a little investigation and saw that MB8_win_x86_SSE3_OpenCL_NV_SoG_r3528.exe had been vanished.

Thanks Richard, the log cleared that up that the file was missing.
Re-installing you Lunatics installer has fixed it.

Don't think it has anything to do with your installer because its working fine now.

Phew, that's a relief - thanks for clearing it up.

A missing .exe file? That could be an over-enthusiastic AV scan. Do you run any anti-virus product that might keep usable logs?

. . Hi Richard,

. . I am probably a little obtuse. When the release of Beta5 was imminent I posted a comment about the advantages of using Lunatics and I cheekily said that the only thing missing was support for SSE4.2. You cryptically responded that this was hinted at in your reply to a message from Wiggo. Does that mean that support for SSE4.2 has become available?

A missing .exe file? That could be an over-enthusiastic AV scan.

It could perhaps be an over-enthusiastic BOINC, too. I just transitioned two of my machines from SoG 8.12 to 8.19 by adding 8.19 as an additional app version, rather than just replacing the old version. (One way or another, I knew I was going to have to manually edit app_info, with or without the installer, so this was the approach I took.)

All new GPU work was then downloaded as 8.19 (for SoG r3528), while r3500 continued to work off all the previously downloaded 8.12 tasks. This worked fine until each machine had fully transitioned over to 8.19, with no 8.12 left in the queue. Then, the next restart for each machine, one last evening and one just about an hour ago, yielded this near the top of the Event Log:

10/15/2016 5:27:36 PM | SETI@home | Found app_info.xml; using anonymous platform
10/15/2016 5:27:36 PM | SETI@home | File referenced in app_info.xml does not exist: MB8_win_x86_SSE3_OpenCL_NV_SoG_r3500.exe
10/15/2016 5:27:36 PM | SETI@home | File referenced in app_info.xml does not exist: MultiBeam_Kernels_r3500.cl
10/15/2016 5:27:36 PM | SETI@home | [error] State file error: missing application file MB8_win_x86_SSE3_OpenCL_NV_SoG_r3500.exe
10/15/2016 5:27:36 PM | SETI@home | [error] State file error: missing application file MB8_win_x86_SSE3_OpenCL_NV_SoG_r3500.exe

Yep, both those files had vanished from the S@h folder. It appears that once BOINC decided it no longer needed the r3500 files, it simply trashed them, then complained about them being missing. No harm done, no task errors, but now I have to go back into each app_info and completely get rid of all 8.12 and r3500 references.

It seems to me that I remember seeing that happening with stock apps, when moving from S@h v6 to v7, but I don't believe I'd seen it with Anonymous Platform and, frankly, I can't think of a legitimate reason for BOINC to do that. Anyone have any thoughts as to why it might?

. . Hello everyone,

. . The fact that it is so quiet in here leads me to believe that everyone is happily running Beta(5) without problems. Otherwise it means that very few people have taken to it ... :(

. . Hi Wiggo,

. . It is only running on La Bamba but is running very nicely there. The output is impressive.

I am seeing no problems on my 750TIs. Inconclusives seem to be running at about 10% and that seems to be mostly against MACs.

. . Well the message boards have gone surprisingly quiet, so it seems that v8.19/r2528 is causing no one any heartburn. A very good sign and testament to quality of the hard work Raistmer has put in.

Will there be a new Beta/RC including the v8.20 for Intel GPU that is currently available over on Beta ? The new v8.20 seems to solve the problems with inconclusives on Skylake GPUs.
I would like to update my system and use the latest Lunatics version, but I would prefer a version that solves the issues with Skylake GPU. Any guess about how long it will take before there is a new Beta/RC ?

Thanks,

Tom
