Anyone notice a change in the work mix lately? Generally it's been around 50/50 Aricebo-Guppies with the odd 40/60 and 60/40 swings. However the last day (or two?) Guppies have dropped down to around 25% (maybe even less) of the work coming through. Grant Darwin NT |

I have the same problem, 10% guppi for past 5 days or so. I would like to do guppi only, if there were a way. SSP says plenty of wu splitting on GBT but can't get them. anyone have suggestions? |

I just have 3 guppis out of 65. That is less than 5%. |

Haven't looked at the totals, but the killawatt meters are running higher today, so probably the same here. "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once." ![]() |

Well.. this doesn't really affect crunching, but I have lost a piece of hardware. After nearly nine years of 24/7/365 powered-on and a lot of use in that time period (non-crunching use, that is), my 1gb Palit 8800GT finally died. :( About 5 years ago, I heard a very loud POP.. like a firecracker.. but never smelt anything, and nothing stopped working, so I continued on like no big deal. Two years after that, I pulled the 8800GT to clean the heatsink and to apply arctic silver 5 to it, and when I took the cover off, I noticed the small 220µF cap right next to the 6-pin PCI-e power plug had exploded. I cleaned up the gunk, and left it as-is and it has been fine ever since. Couple days ago, card was fine--I was playing a game and GPU-Z was showing 95% GPU load. Two hours later, I was watching a video in VLC and paused it for a few minutes, and I knew something was up when the monitor had gone to sleep (when VLC is paused, it still has screensavers disabled). Moved the mouse, nothing. Pressed Caps Lock.. the light lit up on the keyboard--so the system wasn't frozen. After a few minutes, the system DID actually freeze. Pressed reset button, booted back up, had picture again. Opened up VLC, started playing video again, and when I went to skip to where I had left off.. the desktop background outside VLC flickered, but not the area of the screen that had the video. Then the video in VLC was full of artifacts--purple, neon green, blue pixels scattered all over the place--but there were none of those outside of VLC. After a few more seconds of the screen being frozen, Windows said the driver crashed and restarted. Then it was fine for the rest of the evening. Woke up in the morning, checking my email, started scrolling on the webpage.. screen froze again, and driver crashed and recovered. Did a clean reinstall of the driver, hoping maybe it just got corrupted, restarted, and after the win7 loading screen, it wouldn't show the logon screen and I had a BSOD caused by the nvidia kernel. So I powered Altair down and robbed the PNY 6600GT out of it and put it in this machine and had to go and had to go download 309.08--the latest win7-64 driver that supported the 6000-7000 series--and now all is fine. Took the cover off the 8800GT and inspected things closely, and it looks like the center pin in the PCI-e connector is... not burnt, but it is definitely discolored compared to the other five, and it looked like the solder joint had a crack in it. So I dug out the iron and reheated all six joints for the connector, and went ahead and replaced that exploded cap. Put it in Altair, booted up, installed the drivers for it, and it seemed to work... until I tried doing a GPU benchmark, and the system froze. So.. the card does fine with basic display images, but does not like ramping-up to needing accelerated graphics. So in the meantime, I've tried this 6600GT in the games that I play, and I did have to turn a few settings down a tad, but it handles a lot of it just fine. I might pick up a $30 AMD HD 4300 or something similar just to have something that isn't over ten years old, but the game plan is that my friend is waiting for Black Friday for a good deal on a Polaris card (490x..?), and then I'm buying his current 290x off of him. I got a notice from somebody. It may have been an automated response. It stated that I had problems with my cruncher and it needed to be looked at. I goofed yesterday. I updated Crimson to the latest drivers and added another wu to the GPU workload. Let it run and checked it today and the poop has hit the fan. My cruncher has trashed a number of Wu's. So I put the GPU back in its happy spot and I'm letting the cruncher run. I know there are some wonky Wu's to come through still. I will monitor the numbers to see if I have to roll back the drivers. I hope not. I wish I had read the notice before I look at my numbers. The notice was gone when I looked back to read it fully. It said something about spike, maintainence and reboot. ![]() ![]() |

Think I have the problem fixed. GPU was giving bad results. The numbers of questionable wu's are declining. And my rac is going up. ![]() ![]() |

RE: my dead 8800GT.. it's still dead. But my friend acquired a replacement card for me to use in the interim until I buy his 290x off of him later this year: ![]() It is a low-profile card, so I had to get a PCI-e riser cable for it. Then I ran into mounting issues because it is a BTX bracket. So.. it's kind of just hanging in the case at the moment. Shouldn't be a problem, because it weighs practically nothing. RE: my dead 8800GT.. it's still dead. But my friend acquired a replacement card for me to use in the interim until I buy his 290x off of him later this year: I hope he gives you a very good price for it. Polaris is now out & it performs well & uses less power than previous series & is (relatively) cheap. Grant Darwin NT |

Waiting for Black Friday to score a good deal on Polaris (490x ?) and then I'll get the 290x for cheap. Linux laptop: record uptime: 1511d 20h 19m (ended due to the power brick giving-up) |

Is anyone else experiencing a problem with uploads and scheduler requests? Just had a look at my log & no signs of any issues with uploads, downloads or Scheduler requests. Grant Darwin NT |

Is anyone else experiencing a problem with uploads and scheduler requests? Keith Myers has been complaining about Errors while downloading, but nobody else has mentioned it. His Kaspersky anti-virus is possibly implicated. |

Has there been any word on the staff's progress in implementing the "No guppie tasks to Nvidia Cards" option in our preferences? |

Has there been any word on the staff's progress in implementing the "No guppie tasks to Nvidia Cards" option in our preferences? I just asked Eric again....his reply was..... "No working solution yet. BOINC scheduler is a mess." So there you have it. "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once." ![]() |
