CHICAGO (WLS) --
Another weekend winter storm moved into the Chicago area Friday afternoon, bringing snow, ice and bitter cold.

I lived too many years in the windy city and do not miss those bone chilling winds off Lake Michigan - especially when the "hawk is talking" walking downtown in the "canyon" as they call it.

Well I wasn't going to use the phone book as more than a step on the floor, in front of the cooler, the book's only 2-3" thick.

But thanks for kind words.

Current temp 42.3F, feels like 34F, predicted low tonight 26F, chance of rain 2%, chance of snow 0%.

Getting ready for the Arctic Plunge/Polar Vortex in Texas:
ARCTIC FRONT ARRIVES TODAY – MUCH MUCH COLDER BY SUNDAY MORNING

Our well-advertised cold front is making good strides across the northern half of the state this morning. Temperatures in Amarillo have dropped down into the teens already with winds gusting around 30mph. As suspected, frontal timing has been bumped up a bit from yesterday which will bring the front into the DFW metro area by noon, Waco by evening time, and encroaching on the greater Houston metro area just before midnight. Folks behind the front so far this morning have seen temperatures drop a good 20 degrees within about 20 minutes after its passage. Winds behind the front are expected to be quite blustery with 20-30mph sustained winds with higher gusts.

I don't have any cinder blocks handy, I wish I did, I just got done using the cooler near the sink in the kitchen, can't do that on the other side of the room, tried, won't work, see below.

Fumble, Crash, break... Cleaned up all debris, changed Graces water... Grace needed clean water anyway.

I'm now tired, I did find the cooler would withstand My weight, but I will need a new cooler if I do that too many times, so a heavy duty ladder will be required in the near future, to the tune of somewhere between $184(4') and $212(6'), lovely, but both have a 500lb weight rating, so there is not a lot of choice.

I tried getting up on the cooler a 3rd time, and not near the kitchen counter where I found I could use one of My arms to pull Myself up, I found even with a Las Vegas NV 2006-2007 phone book(on the floor as a step), I could not get on top of the igloo legend 72 cooler of Mine, so a ladder it will be.

But I got two CFL lamps(28w, 14w ea) replaced w/an LED lamp(9w, 850 lumens), lots of dusty cobwebs, yuck! The shade is now clean. But it works and looks like Daylight, and it's bright.

Now I just need the pilot for the gas heater relit, the park knows, but Matt is absent I think. Otherwise the air in here will get cold again.

So in a bit I'll head to the Post Office to pick up some plastic nuts for the rear bathroom ceiling lamp shade.

My legs are tired, but otherwise everything is ok...

Meanwhile the current temp is 51.6F, the predicted low is 28F, I think I'm going to make some lunch.

I did figure you might have lived in Chicago, by your cat posts. I'm in the burbs, and it's colder out here.

Now you are in Texas. Cold front moving in. Stay warm & safe.

Everyone stay warm and safe. You also Vic.

I know all my sisters are in lock down, my one sister broke her hip last Christmas eve on the ice and I know she won't be out in it. LOL

Three months of recovery was enough for her.

Been there, 3 months is a lot, She's a smart lady.

The Packers and da Bears are playing today, one fan from Florida is attending, but She is not going to have any bare skin exposed, and She has hopefully has enough layers on, She has relatives in the Chicago area at least.

That stadium is right next to the lake, it gets flat ass cold there.
Hell I'd watch it on TV and forget the cold weather. LOL

The year I was there it got cold and the fog rolled in off the lake and was so thick that they had to stop the game for a while.

My short overweight friend makes a set of steps out of breeze blocks for those occasions.

I got the 5 plastic lamp shade nuts in the mail, put one up by itself as a test, found I still couldn't get the ceiling lamp shade up from the floor while on My arches while wearing My shoes, so I got the Las Vegas NV phone book out, 2.50-3.00" higher up did the trick, I now have only 1 lamp to replace with the lamps that I have, but the shade will need cleaning, of the last CFL's, two CFL's are in the range hood, LED lamps for those have not arrived yet, and two CFL lamps are outside, they're both 11w lamps, two 7w LED's would work, 9w would as well, but for 2w, naw, there might be some 7w LED lamps at a nearby store, though Staters is out of those, they just have three 9w lamps left, no sign of restocking at Staters(clearance sale, the lamps don't sell there, the CFL's are also on Clearance too, no I'm not buying, incandescents are pricey, but are not on sale and I won't buy even one of those), and I'm very tired.

Current temp 48F, feels like 49F, inside 72F...

The Packers and da Bears are playing today,

Tomorrow, when the high will be around 0F and the wind chill possibly the worst ever for an NFL game (not that I care).

Heavy rain at the moment. Almost two inches today. If this was snow, we'd be buried.

Ok, I could have sworn the TV said, never mind.

And yeah, 0F sucks, here I'm lucky to have a gas range as cheap backup heat, right now I'm wearing a light jacket, have My shoes on inside, which is not something that I typically do, and holding Grace, while typing.
