When installing Lunatics, did you manually choose CPU type (SSE2/AVX/etc) when doing the install? (you may have done it wrong; Lunatics does find the best version to use automatically, at least for Intel, where I have experience). |

I only see one computer on your account - host 7514069 - but that hasn't contacted the servers since Sunday afternoon (morning in Canada), and hasn't reported any errors yet. Until they show up, it's hard to comment on what might be going wrong. Although the installer has detected that your CPU can handle the SSE4.2 instruction set (as has CPU-Z), the developers didn't actually supply me with an SSE4.2 application this time round. With Joe Segur's continuing absence, and the rush to get v8 out of the door as quickly as possible, we were short of development resources. With that set of options, the installer will actually have deployed an ordinary SSE3 application for MB v8. We also didn't have time before releasing the installer to specifically test which application - SSE3 or AVX - would be best on an AMD FX-8350. It may be that AVX beats SSE3 for v8, even though we found that SSE4.2 beat AVX for v7. Perhaps, now that the dust has settled, another FX-8350 user could advise? We're getting close to the point where we can retire the legacy v7 applications, and reissue the installer with a smaller payload. Maybe some developer could step into the breach left by Joe, and re-create the full range of CPU apps (hint, hint)? ;-) |

I have tested it on my FX 8350. Can you think of any reason why the SSE3 version should exhibit my work units are saying Computation Error and not completing. They'll start, reset their ETA a few times, and fail. I can only think of thermal problems, which might become even worse with AVX. |

I have tested it on my FX 8350. For OS like Vista and earlier where AVX is not supported at all. With each crime and every kindness we birth our future. |

I have tested it on my FX 8350. That wasn't the question. David Comeau is running an OS - Windows 10 - which should be equally at home running either SSE3 or AVX. But by his description, the SSE3 app is failing. Any ideas why? |

I have tested it on my FX 8350. First thing i would think of is thermal issue. But it also depends on the motherboard and Bios settings. If CPU Load line calibraition is available and set up correctly. When all 8 cores are fully utilized issues are to be expected. With each crime and every kindness we birth our future. |

I have a Thermaltake water 3.0 ultimate cooling this CPU, and it's running on stock speeds. Heat is not an issue. Motherboard is a Crosshair V Formula Z. I'll leave it run for the next few hours and see what happens. |

Having the best CPU cooler doesn't mean you have a good thermal connection to your CPU. What are you CPU temps when under load? |

Yeah I have no idea what's going on. Top is WU's that have failed, bottom is in progress. I have no idea what I broke. *Edit - Temps are around 45 celsius under full load. |

45 C is a good temp, but it's not loaded, all your doing is kicking errors every 20 sec. I would say you tried some CPU clocking that didn't go well, you were running fine, then suddenly went south. |

Make sure Turbo Mode is disabled in Bios. Also C1, C4 and C6. Reduce number of cores to 50% in Boinc manager to see if this helps. With each crime and every kindness we birth our future. |

One thing that just caught my eye is my Intel i5 quad processes more than twice as fast as your 8 core AMD for CPU tasks (and I don't run free cores) That may indicate you are chocking your CPU |

One thing that just caught my eye is my Intel i5 quad processes more than twice as fast as your 8 core AMD for CPU tasks (and I don't run free cores) Thats normal because 2 cores share 1 FPU. With each crime and every kindness we birth our future. |

If one looks at host in question he would see that host failing with stock CPU binary too. |

. . Hello fellow lunatics, . . Is it possible once Lunatics is installed to change the settings made during installation on the fly? That is can I change the method selected from AVX to SSE4.2 (or SSE4.1) and tell it to let GPU tasks run stock without shutting everything down and re-installing Lunatics? . . All help greatly appreciated |
