LSM and I saw a pelican over the river when we were coming back from Edmonton the other day. There are a lot more hunting birds around this year. I saw a cardinal a couple of years back, and I was hoping it was warm enough this year for a repeat showing. It is even better than that, the cycle won't be complete for another two years so there is lots better to come in animal numbers alone. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

LSM and I saw a pelican over the river when we were coming back from The only thing I see more of lately here is......bunny rabbits. Must have been a really mild winter for them, for they are here in abundance this year. Also, squirrels. Lots and lots of little squirrels. LSM and I saw a pelican over the river when we were coming back from We have had steadily increasing numbers of cardinals in the yard over the last few years. There are at least two nesting pairs this year, and their offspring are starting to show up at the feeders. I read somewhere that the average cardinal never travels more than a few kilometres from where it was born, so it make take some time for them to penetrate into central Alberta. ![]() ![]() |

I found two small bird eggs on the ground in my backyard a few days ago. It made me sad for the bird parents. ~Sue~ ![]() |

Unfortunately two 'repeat offenders' were euthanized in my neighborhood last week. And my trash disposal service wants us to put our cans/sacks out the night before...........this is the result. http://www.9news.com/news/local/two-bears-euthanized-in-last-24-hours/247765533 ![]() "Sour Grapes make a bitter Whine." <(0)> |

I found two small bird eggs on the ground in my backyard a few days ago. Complete eggs or just shells? Most birds remove the egg shell from the nest after the chicks have hatched and dicard them a distance from the nest, this helps to keep predators away from the nest. Kevin ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I found two small bird eggs on the ground in my backyard a few days ago. One was a complete egg. The other was a broken, empty shell. ~Sue~ ![]() |

Anesthetize and relocate!! Geez how it pisses me off when they kill these animals for being themselves. ~Sue~ ![]() |

Agree. I hope there will be an invistigation like the Harambe the gorilla case why the animals had to be put down. |

Anesthetize and relocate!!Both animals had been previously relocated, the problem is people not being aware of or not caring how their activities attract bears. Bear 'proofing'(trash containers) should be required by law in all Colorado front range communities. ![]() "Sour Grapes make a bitter Whine." <(0)> |

Saturday night, went over (straddled without touching) a dark mass on the road that didn't look like a skunk, but sure smelled like one for a couple minutes. Sunday morning, noticed it was still there. Sunday night, failed to go over it and caught the edge, but it no longer smelled. I've been noticing lightning bugs again. I had been a little worried about not seeing any in the last several years, but this summer I'm seeing a fair number flickering in the early dark of the evening here. It's nice. ![]() |

My in-laws in Wisconsin get them in the summer. Maybe the lightening bug population fluctuations you've noticed are based on dry vs wet summers? ![]() |

Stubborn reindeers besieging house in Skellefteå. Lena Sandberg says that the reindeers keep watch over the property when the owners are not home. "When they have been away from home and coming home the reindeers are like guard dogs on the bridge to the house," the police said. - They are also looking in through the kitchen window when we eat. Our kids think it's exciting but a little scary, says Lena. |

I'm surprised that the reindeer don't eat the potted plants. We have mule deer out here and they are like goats! There is very little they find unappetizing. ![]() |

I guess our reindeers are different here:) "They are not shy to help themselves to the family dining table outside, even though the two reindeers are not invited to the table" the police said. |

My in-laws in Wisconsin get them in the summer. Maybe the lightening bug population fluctuations you've noticed are based on dry vs wet summers? Or perhaps it depends on the previous winter? We have far more bugs than normal after a mild winter. ~Sue~ ![]() |

My in-laws in Wisconsin get them in the summer. Maybe the lightening bug population fluctuations you've noticed are based on dry vs wet summers? What Sue said sounds about right, but as far as lightning bugs go, I don't know how weather affects them. I'm just glad to see them. :~) ![]() |
