According to a story in the Sydney Morning Herald, the shooting resulted in two arrests and drew attention from Australia’s Foreign Affairs Department and the FBI. Yakima County Sheriff's office Spokesman Casey Schilperoort says none of it is true.

Well Eye, if your state is burning to the ground around you and your firefighters are dropping like flies with exhaustion then let us know and we won't bother coming. ;-)

Don't worry, they'll probably end up demanding they are armed under their 2nd Amendment rights.

Letting you know right now...........if you are so afraid for your lives just because two hunters fired weapons in your vicinity STAY IN AUSTRALIA!

I SERIOUSLY doubt the part about being pursued over a ridge and the bit about a last message.........something to consider when sifting the truth here.........if this ACTUALLY HAPPENED...........don't you think that every anti gun WIGNUT would be screaming from the rooftops?

I gotta call FAKE NEWS on this one........or at least way overblown as a lot of the Hot Air coming out from 'down under' seems to be.

And SMH is not published in the US so no matter who owns them the non-story received NO NATIONAL COVERAGE in the US. Therefore by the Bob Woodward standard it didn't happen.......

Message 1954815 - Posted: 11 Sep 2018, 13:26:08 UTC - in response to Message 1954814.

The incident, which involved two Australians and two local officers, led to the arrest of the two hunters.
They were issued Violation Notices by USDA Forest Service Law Enforcement Officers for violation of the closure order. Further charges are pending.
So gun lovers prefer to ignore warning orders just so they can continue to get their jollies by pulling triggers...

...hmm....

........violation notices sound a lot different than attempted murder or minimum reckless endangerment which would be the charge if the story was as written by the snowflake journalist in Sydney.

Unadulterated BULL S#%*..............ain't nothin' here.

Stay home boyos...........don't get your panties damp.

The Associated Press published the story in the US.

Quite happy to see you continue with your jaundiced views. So no problems then of gun lovers violating whatever the hell they want just so they can get their rocks off. Nice views.

Don't dignify them as "gun lovers" they are "poachers" and there shouldn't be a limit on poachers, cull as many as you want.

I have problem with the story.
U.S. Forest Service says one thing.
Yakima County Sheriff's office Spokesman Casey Schilperoort says another.
Maybe that's why it was only published in just one news publication in the US.

Are you suggesting that irresponsibility has no relevance? No wonder Americans have issues with police!

Seems the SMH headline was clickbait. But that is the norm these days. You have to read the articles.

Correction I just ran across the AP story during the outrage.
https://www.king5.com/article/news/local/hunters-shoot-at-firefighters-battling-washington-wildfires/281-592961534

But if I may quote
Officials on the Miriam Fire said in a news release that the incident happened Aug. 23.

U.S. Forest Service spokeswoman Traci Weaver said Monday that firefighting in the area was halted once gunfire was detected and that 14 U.S. and Australian firefighters were evacuated to the nearby ski lodge.

No one was injured.

Weaver says federal, state and local officers investigated, finding two men inside the fire area closure who said they were shooting ground squirrels and marmots and also were bear hunting.

She says the men were cited for violating closure orders and that an investigation is ongoing.
...so apparently unless our esteemed guests resembled one of the highlighted mammals, no person was 'hunted' or 'shot at' as alleged in the hyperbolic, sensationalized and fictionalized yellow journalism effort intended to elicit just the emotional reaction it did in Wiggo and every other hysterical anti 2nd Amendment cheerleader.

Just another fart in a skillet.

This also points out the major difference in the American Justice system to others...........here the accused is PRESUMED INNOCENT unless found guilty by a court of their peers.

Simplistically the burden of proof lies with the accuser not the accused.

You're preaching to the choir. However, you are another who believes that irresponsibility has no relevance,THAT has nothing to do whatsoever with the 2nd Amendment, just basic common sense. So thank you for confirming that not only you & Clyde but others have none. :-)

Since when are the words of the defendant proof?
The truth, not the Faux, is the government could not find evidence to say what really happened. But are you going to go hunting for slugs in the middle of a forest fire?

Actually it was bear hunters who didn't observe closures in the area firing rifles in the direction of the firefighters and stopping firefighting operations.
It's most likely easy to find bears running from a forest fire and that's why they were there.
Investigating is underway.
I don't think it's more to the story.
