Strange that Viking Sky that has four engines and all of them stopped...
- The weather should not normally cause problems in the machine on a ship such as "Viking Sky", says Arve Bredesen, chief engineer at Fosen Yard in Indre Fosen in Trøndelag.
Anway, all passengers thanks the crew on board and the coast guard for the effort in the rescue work that apparently also managed to keep them calm.
The ship has managed to start the engines and will reach harbor later this afternoon.

- We have learned through the media that the problems on "Sky Viking" start with a blackout. It can have several reasons, but because this happened during high seas, it may be due to dense fuel filters. When the boat rolls, dirt that is in the bottom of the fuel tanks may come loose and seal the filter. Thus, the machine does not receive fuel.

Bredesen also points to another possibility. Namely, air enters the diesel system, or into the sea cooling system.

- But it's just guessing. Only one investigation could determine what caused "Sky Viking" machine failure.

Really? https://www.bbc.com/news/business-47691478
They're having fun with this one on broadcast news.

Apparently only the pilots and air traffic control knew the flight plan was Edinburgh: the cabin crew though it was Dusseldorf, and presumably checked boarding cards.

"Passengers were surprised when they landed early". Really? - Dusseldorf is actually closer to London.

Nobody noticed - on a bright sunny day - that they were heading west of North, instead of pretty much due East? And not crossing water...

I'm blaming Brexit myself - the (German) crew didn't want to be invaded by British escapers. Especially since we spent yesterday remembering the 75th anniversary of 'The Great Escape'. Don't mention the war.

Having flown to both airports I would say, that although Düsseldorf is closer it takes longer to get there, and has a much smoother approach, but nowhere as near as nice a set of views - one high-rise block is much the same as another, but Edinburgh has three magnificent bridges to view during the decent (unless one comes in from the South West, then it's the rolling fields of the central lowlands)

Flight 75 to Dusseldorf or is it flight 75 to Edinburgh? Do they have two flights going different places with the same flight number?

Just who told the gate agent to board the flight to Dusseldorf on the airplane going to Edinburgh? Or did they tell the pilot to get on the wrong aircraft? OBW, did they put the luggage and cargo on the wrong right plane too? Did they put the wrong fuel load on the plane? Might be really bad if they wasn't enough go juice! It's not so funny when you realize that and someone needs to explain how it happened so it can never happen again and/or possibly several someone's need to be terminated.

As part of the upgrade, Boeing will install as a standard a warning system, which was previously an optional safety feature.

trump and the US is losing this phony trade war, why?

Cause there are other places to buy stuff from, unlike from 1945 to maybe 1955 or so when everyone else was rebuilding from World War II.

Unlike a lot of the world, the US suffered no real damage on the North American Continent as a result of WWII.

Sub raids did no real damage and any saboteurs were easily spotted and captured, We could act like them like in Patterns of Force in Star Trek, but they knew next to nothing about being in America the Melting Pot.

The US and the UK bombed Germany back to the stone age and then helped start the rebuilding in Europe with the Marshall Plan which was offered to Eastern Europe and to Russia who refused the help.

This thread is heading rapidly away from discussing safety in transportation into the realms of the politics of international trading.

UPDATE: Missouri man arrested in WV while headed to White House, Pentagon with gun, explosive powder
KINGWOOD, W.Va. - UPDATE (March 28, 2019 2:25 p.m.):

West Virginia State Police have released additional information as well as the name of the man who is accused of making threats against President Trump and the Pentagon, which led to I-68 being temporarily shut down on Wednesday.

... Troopers were patrolling the area of I-68 eastbound near mile marker 28 on Wednesday at 10:25 a.m. when they observed a black sedan traveling at approximately 130 mph in a 70 mph zone. Troopers then attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle, as the vehicle continued traveling eastbound at a reduced rate of speed, until it eventually pulled over near mile marker 30, according to court documents.

... Troopers said they asked Charron if he possessed any firearms and he told police there was a 9-millimeter handgun in the trunk of his car. Troopers then asked Charron if he possessed any explosives, to which he responded, "not a whole lot." Troopers said they then asked Charron to exit the vehicle.

One person was injured after a concrete railing fell from a bridge in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on Monday, shutting down two interstate ramps at one of the busiest intersections in the country.
The bridge collapse took place at the Interstate 75 North and I-24 West split, according to Chattanooga police. The railing from I-75 fell onto the I-24 ramp, according to the Tennessee Department of Transportation.

That's what happens when infrastructure maintenance is neglected. The Republican mantra is we can't afford to raise the gas tax to pay for it.

Ethiopian Airlines crew in Boeing 737 crash "could not control" jet despite following procedures, report finds

Pilots "repeatedly" followed procedures recommended by Boeing before the crash, according to the first official report into the disaster.

As another source put it, after they turned it off - they turned it back on which isn't Boeing's procedure!

And everytime the price of gasoline went up, My local friends would blame the rise on taxes and not on the rise and fall of the price of crude oil, yet be strangely silent when the price went down, all due to low information.
