Crook Learns Painful Lesson: Don't Try to Rob a Guy Walking a Pit Bull Mix

Man's best friend got the job done in Rogers Park this month when an armed robber tried to mug a man walking his dog, only to have the dog attack, bite and chase him off, police said.

Meet Smokey, a 1½-year-old Pit Bull/Cane Corso Mastiff Mix...

---snip---
"I told him the only reason my dog hasn't got you is because he's wearing a choke collar," Espinoza said.

But the robber stepped in anyway and Espinoza loosened his grip on the leash, allowing the dog to jump full force into the man's chest.

"Smokey got up on his two back legs and and bit him. I could see at first his jacket was being pulled, but then his neck got big and hard and I knew he'd got the right grip," Espinoza said.

---snip---
Neither the dog or Espinoza were hurt during the attack. The extent of the robber's injuries is not known.

As for Smokey, he was treated to chicken breasts back home, Espinoza said, hardly aware of the heroic act he had performed protecting his owner.

BERKELEY, Calif. --
The University of California, Berkeley says a hacker broke into a computer system holding financial data of 80,000 students, alumni, current and former employees.

The university said Friday that although there is no evidence that any information has been stolen, it has notified potential victims of the breach so they can watch for signs of possible misuse of their personal data.

Read that Google accepted "some responsibility" for that fender-bender.

Have you aggravated a telemarketer today?

Roger Anderson’s Jolly Roger Telephone Co. offers sweet revenge against all those annoying callers

Roger Anderson, JRTC’s CEO, was being bombarded daily by multiple telemarketers. During one call, he handed the telephone to his young son, wondering how much of the telemarketer’s time the boy could waste. When the telemarketer hung up, his son looked very unhappy and complained that the man had called him a name and used a bad word.

Some people just have no manners, so they go rude and crude...

My number is on the "do not call list", so I don't have that problem.

So is mine, but with auto-dialers and random-number callers, some still get through. That's the whole point of these services - to mess with the ones that get through.

On my way to see about watching a movie. Looked over at Interstate 35 roadway and noticed the south bound traffic had stopped. I wondered what was backing it up. I got my answer about 30 seconds later. A state trooper speeding along followed closely by the rest of the emergence response. I saw the special tools truck headed out with them. It is a shorter version of fire truck with just roll up sides for equipment.

I did a very quick trip into town this morning, 80km/50 country highway miles @ 99% 100km/h/60mph, but not for any food. ;-)

Put the car away (for another 2 weeks) then went down the pub for a few beers. :-D

Cheers.

Observation:
The first six digits of Pi are 3.14159. If you round up one place you get 3.1416. That is Monday! 3/14/16. So we must all celebrated rounded pi day. Pies are round so it seem appropriate.
Happy Rounded Pi Day!

Hmm. Pizza Pies are very round but you don't have to be aware of PI to slice it.
Why use decimal system when Sumerian and Babylonian mathematics was based on a sexegesimal, or base 60, numeric system, which could be counted physically using the twelve knuckles on one hand the five fingers on the other hand.
It's very easy to do in trading and in the middle east they still use it.

I was busy that day at work and went out that night, and then all weekend after, so I didn't have a chance to mention that last Friday was the 50th anniversary of the beginning of my existence. No, not my birthday, that other all-important event that comes before birth. About nine months before.

You may now all tell me "TMI!"
