Hi - Is there a way to remove the static Seti Earth/purple wave graphic in the lower left of the screensaver? It's the only static component of the screensaver, and I'd like to run the saver for longer periods of time without worrying about burnin. (It's a spare iMac, but still would be nice to not have to worry about it). I don't see a way to do it in settings, and haven't been able to find it (yet) on the system.

Thanks

It's one of the images that are in the Library/Application Support/BOINC Data/projects/setiathome.berkeley.edu/ map. It's called sah_banner_290.png on my Windows. You ought to be able to remove it, but do know that there's a very good chance that it's sent back to your system at the next contact that BOINC has with the Seti servers.

Another option is to find the image file, remove it and put an empty image file in its place with the same name.

Thanks! The empty image is probably the way I would go. Thanks for the pointer!

So, investigating further, looks like it's actually the seti_700.jpg image that's displayed. I can replace it with a "blank" image (tested with a 1x1pt dot, basically) which works, but only on the 1st invocation of the screensaver. If interrupted and then restarted, the image does re-download from the server and overwrites my "fix".

Changing ownerships and perms of the image doesn't help - in fact, changing owner causes the screensaver to not start.

I think that the server checks the size of the image file and if it finds it's not as it is on the server, you get sent a new copy.
So you have to make the image file the same size.

Last thing that's possible is that the server also checks the MD5 value of the file, but sadly you cannot spoof that one. So if it does that, there's no way around it, but to turn the monitor off.

Is there a best address or place to request the ability to adjust this behavior? Not sure if this is a Boinc specific thing, or Seti only, but would be nice to have.

The screen saver is of the project, and as far as I know they will not change it. No manpower or money to do so.

But if you know someone who knows how to program C/C++, or can do so yourself, there's always the source code available.
