Couple of good straw men there Ozz....

Isn't this a dangerous statement to make? Who decides what is qualified? And what makes a field of study more qualified than others given that most scientific discoveries are from accidental experiments?
Either you missed the parenthesis (STEM) or are unaware of the meaning: Sciences, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, if you don't agree these are the productive areas of study that made the examples of Japan and Taiwan relevant(along with Korea and many other examples of societies crawling out of the 19th century).

And ALL scientific discoveries whether accidental or intentional are of no use other than curiosity until an application is found which usually generates wealth.

Wouldn't this A) give a huge advantage to large mega-corporations to consistently attract (or buy, depending on your view) more educated talent than startups, thus continuing a cycle of the rich getting richer because they own all the talent? And B) create a capitalist form of indentured servitude or paving the way to a form of legal slavery?
Very inside the box thinking......

The scholarships could be funded as a pool from all participating businesses with the level of participation being based on predetermined parameters with the graduates being free to choose the best job/participating employer, fit for themselves, or be free to repay the scholarship and work any where or in any field they choose. As to indentured servitude a specific length of employment at the chosen company would be agreed prior to accepting the scholarship, after which time the individual is free to market his talents to anyone.

This is just an extension of the old apprenticeship concept modernized. The Military Academies in the US do just that now. In return for the education the cadets are required to serve in the corresponding branch of the Military for a specified number of years.

It's not a difficult concept and beats the hell out of a Government run program with the graft, corruption and waste inherent in that scenario.

Politico has had a look at the background of Trump campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski. He who has been charged with battery against, Breitbart reporter, Michelle Fields.

Trump campaign manager's behavior prompted staff concerns

But a POLITICO investigation reveals that the incident was far from the first time in Lewandowski’s political career ― or even during the 2016 campaign ― that the intense, Red Bull-chugging operative has been accused of bullying and other inappropriate behavior.

Well, instead of taces going to funding college education (STEM or otherwise, from this STEM guy right herrrre), I supposed we could put our tax money to:

(1) Depose this ruler but not that ruler and
(2) funding our "allies" that are the true sources of the ISI ideology.

Oh, wait. We already to that.
So, if we stopped these interventions ... hmmm, well, let's just tax less!

Who are the "left" that support this form of socialism?

Bolshevik Bernie comes most immediately to mind. And that is not a restrictive definition. And I will not argue degrees or semantics. The countries I listed adhere to the Socialist definition I put forth and are almost destitute(the people not the leaders who live very well). And while Bernie is allowed to spout his drivel without interruption under the 1st Amendment, the same right is not accorded to Trump.

I'm not a Trump acolyte and disagree with his tactics (but do agree with his ideas in general), but I don't trust Kasich or Cruz to create enough reform where it's needed. I will support however any conservative against the encroachment of liberal usurpation of my Constitutional Rights as written.

Crony Liberalism or Crony Socialism are as bad as Crony Capitalism because of the Cronies. China and Russia tried living up to the 'restrictive definition' and had to re-think their policies when they couldn't squeeze any more blood from the stone to pay for their programs. The laughable spectacles they call 'free elections' only demonstrate the control still held by the 'dear leaders' like Putin and China's central committee.

Socialism stifles creativity. It's that simple.

Bernie isn't a Socialist, he is a social democrat. There is a big difference.
Which you should go and study, rather than posting your beliefs.
At the moment you fall into one of two categories either uninformed or misinformed.

Hmmm.
Sweden's Social Democrats would never choose someone like Bernie Sanders because he's too radical.
Bernie Sanders insistence on calling Scandinavia socialist countries has left a bad taste in the mouths of some. Prime Minister of Denmark, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, recently corrected Sanders public during a speech at Harvard and said that he preferred the term "social democracy."
In Europe we distinguish between socialism and social democracy in that social-democracy advocates a strong welfare system in a capitalist free market system. Democratic socialism, however, would advocate a state ownership of the means of production and a much more aggressive state control of the economy in a more traditional Marxist spirit.

Is Sanders really a social democrat?

One inspired by the 74-year-old Socialist is Jonas Sjöstedt, leader of Vänsterpartiet (former communist party), who has met Sanders.
- Of course I'm thinking about how I can transmit his message to Sweden, says the V leader.

Guessing this Thread's name should be changed to:
U.S. 2016 Elections
Or perhaps new Thread?

Make sense to make a new thread.
The other candidates lower the entertainment value of Drumpf so to speak.

That suggestion is painful, causing me and youngest to laugh that much.

Conservative, with a strong belief that education and training is the best way to keep people employed and happy. And that it also lowers taxes in the long term.

I also believe sales tax should be applied to everything that's bought. Low rates, including zero, for essentials might help the poor but it helps the better off even more. Who buys most food, and usually the most expensive and best quality? The extra sales tax collected can be ring-fenced to pay benefits to those that really need them and health provision.

And where does this new tax leave retirees trying to live on $1500 a month SS benefits? If they're paying rent, utilities, Part D and the co-pays, buy food, clothing and maintain a vehicle? Especially those whose retirement dreams were washed away by the likes of Qwest, Enron, GM, the real estate collapse and Wall Streets peccadillos?

WK My apology for seeming to refer to you as left, what my intended meaning was, in the vein of the thread, is to suggest that admonishing someone not to post something is the same 1st Amendment stifling tactic engaged by the those of the Bernie camp against Trump.

Does WK have a similar right to say that you should study before offering an opinion? Or does that right only protect your speech (including your ability to cry foul when admonished for not having an informed opinion)?

If true (and I don't recall seeing anything to suggest it is), how well is that tactic working for the Sanders camp?
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that ...

It's called value-added tax (VAT).
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Value-added_tax
A value-added tax (VAT) or goods and services tax (GST) is a popular way of implementing a consumption tax in Europe, Japan, and many other countries. It differs from the sales tax in that taxes are applied to the difference between the seller-purchased price and the resale price. This is accomplished by taking full tax on all sales, but refunding the tax difference to the sellers.
In the United States, currently, there is no federal value-added tax (VAT) on goods or services. Instead, a sales and use tax is common in most US states. VATs have been the subject of much scholarship in the US and is one of the most contentious tax policy topics.

I wonder why the US citizens wants lower taxes and still believe they could manage to withhold the US Defense, Eduction, Healthcare, Infrastructures and many more institutions.

Apology accepted.
Regarding the SS benefits, under my thinking they would go up more than they would pay out in increased sales taxes, because there would be larger increase into the pot from the richer section of the population.
i.e. the poor pensioner would pay an extra x% of a small amount spent, if x was 10% for simplicity then they would pay $150 max. While the rich would pay the same x% on a large amount spent, but at 10% even the median US household (2014) would pay over $5,000. And don't forget over 20% of US households have an income over &100,000.

edit] I have just been reading about the plight of the US coal miners, an industry I know something about as I have done work for Joy Mining.

WinterKnight...

Sales and VAT Taxes are very regressive.

They disproportionately effect the Poor, and Lower Middle Classes.

The Rich can afford these taxes, and are not effected.

RE: Very High Cigarette Taxes.

Since a higher percentage of Smokers are Poor, or Lower middle Classes. It is The Poor and..., who are paying the price.

Not The Rich.

You show sign's of believing the people in control, you're not reading and understanding what I wrote.

Effectively the sales tax on the rich is passed back to those who need benefits.

So even if the poor pay an extra $100 on sales tax they would get back a larger amount from the sales taxes paid by the richer members of society.

According to liberals, the U.S. constitution is outdated.

The U.S. governing system was designed by our forefathers to allow for amending laws so that as things change, future generations could add or modify as they see fit. Progression of mankind is a must. Ergo, our laws governing ourselves must change too. What was acceptable/unacceptable 200 years ago is largely no longer relevant today.

Nice to here some of you Americans understand what your constitution is a set of rules you all agree to live by not a document that can or never should be changed .

Guy did your for fathers ever see the invention of the Atomic bomb when the second was introduced or the full on assault rifle ....

NO otherwise I think they would not have allowed it .

And also your for fathers in the original document didn't see a need for it so I ask why was it there , wouldn't be corruption by rich gun makers looking after there own interests instead of the Country's interests would it or am I just to cynical

Mr Beaver, amazing how no matter the thread subject or the avatar you post from, you always try to steer the thread to the US 2nd Amendment.

Fact: There are 200 Million firearms and over 1 Trillion (with a T) rounds of ammunition legally obtained and in private hands, if we have violent intentions you would know it.

Again, it's our country, our choice, our Bill of Rights, not yours. You are irrelevant to the subject.

End of subject from me, no further response.

Crystal ball looking at Drumpf
https://www.yahoo.com/news/maine-governor-refuses-swear-newly-elected-senator-154556947.html?nhp=1
LePage spokeswoman Adrienne Bennett says the governor canceled the event in response to a party-line vote Thursday in the Legislature's labor committee, which turned down his pick for the unemployment insurance commission. Bennett said Democrats treated the nominee, Steven Webster, "despicably."

Phil Bartlett, chairman of the Maine Democratic Party, said LePage is disregarding the will of voters.

"Once again, the governor decides to throw a temper tantrum and refuse to do his job because he did not get his way," Bartlett said.

Yes exactly and that's why how many people die in your country because of firearms ....mmmmmmmm

The second is just a example of how your constitution has been high jacked by bad people , pity you can't see that and as you say it's your country so wake up and fix it by not letting idiots like DRUMPF win

You'll have to try a lot harder to upset me .

And if you don't wish others outside your country to comment on your constitution then don't come here and try and change ours like you have .

That's why I have just as much right as any to comment seeing as you keep interfering with my country and keep trying to stuff it up like you have your own .
