The BBC also used to play it at the end of that days broadcasts before 24/7 TV came in. It was the same here in germany Chris. We only had 2 channels back then. With each crime and every kindness we birth our future. |

As far as I know, The Star-Spangled Banner has never been played at a Theatre in the USA, though if yer ever at a Ball Park in the 7th inning you'll be asked to stand up, if one can. It's the same song as the UK's National Anthem, just different lyrics, than GSTQ or GTSK.. A bar song, supposedly, which is why so many fail to sing the The Star-Spangled Banner properly.. They always play the Star Spangled Banner, usually with a live singer (sometimes a capella), before baseball games. They also play/sing O Canada if one of the teams is Toronto. The visitor's anthem is first. Since 9/11, they precede the SSB with God Bless America (at least at Wrigley Field, don't know about other parks). The song that's the same tune as GSTQ is My Country Tis of Thee. In my admittedly limited experience, the usual song for the seventh inning stretch is Take Me Out to the Ball Game. TV stations here used to play the SSB when they signed off at night. Now, they never sign off. Several years ago, when the Montreal Expos moved and became the Washington Nationals, I wrote a parody song about it, to the tune of O Canada. To help me with it, I looked up the real lyrics. Then I looked up the French lyrics and discovered that they are completely different than the English ones. They are not anywhere near being a translation. As far as I know, The Star-Spangled Banner has never been played at a Theatre in the USA... When I was in the Navy, EVERY military base with a theater played the National Anthem before the first flick. Probably still do. I used to know the words to "To Anacreon in Heaven", the tune used for the Star-Spangled Banner. But you'll have a tough time getting me drunk enough to actually sing it... The size is fine Celt, I've been told posting up to 1024 in width is ok in the past, so 800 is nothing to worry about I'd think. The T1 Trust, PRR T1 Class 4-4-4-4 #5550, 1 of America's First HST's |
