Saw this today and it reminded me of Tamir Rice - http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/06/17/clint-smith-black-son-ted-talk_n_7597936.html

Cliff, I fear the "privilege" may be that few are willing to post in the thread, either to show agreement or dissent.

I heard that on NPR a few days ago and it was worth revisiting.

There is an article on the Ferguson protests that bears reading. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/ferguson-protests-municipal-court-reform_55a90e4be4b0c5f0322d0cf1 Even though the protests were violent and caused extensive damage, sometimes violent protest lend themselves to good outcomes. Towards the end of the article, there is the video clip of President Obama giving the eulogy at Senator/Reverend Clementa Pinckeny's funeral. If you haven't seen it yet I encourage you to watch it, and if you have seen it please watch it again. I watched it after reading the article and it is still as true and moving today as it was then.

I always get disturbed by people doing things that hurt others, but my personality makes me want to hide a little from it.

Your posts are amongst the best on this board, Cliff. Keep 'em coming :-)

When out with my mates, the darker complexioned amongst us get the regular privilege of stop and search. Following assistance with sorting out the contents of pockets, shoes and socks, not only do they get praised on their fertile imaginations of being in gainful employment/training, they also get to seek confirmation from their employers that they are in fact what they said they were. Then they're permitted to keep any tools of their trade they were carrying.

I've never enjoyed those privileges.

Violence in response to injustice is not an answer, but it is a message. And it's a useful one if it's listened to. The African-American community has a long history of receiving such messages. It's not surprising they sent one back. The world is watching.
We have nothing to fear but fear itself. Apart from pain. And maybe humiliation. And obviously death. And failure. But apart from fear, pain and humiliation, failure and the unknown and death - we have nothing to fear. Who’s with me?

The Voting Rights Act Is 50 Years Old Today, and right now it's on life support. check out the graphs at the bottom of the page and remember this. Even though the Voting Right Act affected all communities, it primary function was to allow Negros to vote with out the hassle of Jim Crow laws and poll taxes. With the gutting of Section V. by the conservative Supreme Court, poll taxes are making a big come by the new James Crow Esq. poll taxes, mainly called Voter ID laws. One of which from Texas was struck down yesterday. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/voting-rights-act-50-years_55c12a20e4b05c05b01f6a0c?utm_hp_ref=black-voices&ir=Black%2BVoices&section=black-voices&kvcommref=mostpopular
