Data Mk II http://spectrum.ieee.org/automaton/robotics/humanoids/040310-geminoid-f-hiroshi-ishiguro-unveils-new-smiling-female-android[/url] :D but, DATA can do "a total linear computational speed rated at sixty trillion operations per second"! that is 60TFLOPs! ;) non-profit org. Most likely they would use nano technology. Yes, but Data was the size of us and much stronger. Bob DeWoody My motto: Never do today what you can put off until tomorrow as it may not be required. This no longer applies in light of current events. |

Lets get back to topic. Can we stop talking about an actor who played a robot. Data is not real. He was a character that was created to be a Spock replacement only more so. Pinocchio who wants to be real. All his Specs are made up. Personally I don't think an alien AI machine would be humanoid as its creators may not be humanoid. I would think many other forms would be more efficient. Power Sources. At first I thought this off topic as well but the more I thought about it the more I realized it would be as critical as developing AI itself. Worthy of comments and speculation. It would make sense to have something that could convert matter into energy, I have no idea how though. Form I think this is still a valid subject that we haven't discussed enough. Macro, Micro, Multi bodied (like a a hive of bees or ants) Movies & TV like to portray humanoid robots but that is just because it is easier actor wise and easy for the audience to relate. AI Science This is the core of this topic. Links such as this http://www.extremetech.com/extreme/163051-simulating-1-second-of-human-brain-activity-takes-82944-processors Not real brain activity just simulate the number of process 1 sec = 40 mins. Thoughts on why creating true AI is or is not possible. Programmed choices versus self determined choices. Insects IMO only have programmed choices. Humans have both. Fright/flight would be programmed. Sleeping with your best friends GF or wife would a self determined choice. Sorry this got a bit long but this is a subject that has intrigued me for some time. How did Robot Data function in Startrek? Yeh but could he turn the food into energy ? or did he just make a mess in the toilet when it passed through his machanical body . "Somebody get the poo expert to unclog the toilet , Data's been in there again and block'd the system " |

There is one form of energy that is plentifull in space and we can use it already if there was some on the planet that was easy to get .It will make it possible for Fusion power to be used and is much easyer than Hydrogen to use in a fusion reactor . Helium 3 So maybe E.T's robots will use it ,as it's plentiful and efficient and i think can be stored without the problem of leaks in the tanks |

I guess my request to stop posting about Data doesn't matter Glen. For some reason you have decided that even tho I am OP, my request to stay on topic means crap. Fine, I\ll give up on this post and ask a Mod to change the topic to Data's Power Source. I am not sure what I did to you but you win Glen. I would quote my first line but it was the previous post. You had to have read it and then decided to say screw your request. Good advice Chris. I would close the thread but I suspect it will die a natural death. In hindsight I could have been a tad more diplomatic and will do so in the future should the occasion arise. Each of the subjects would make a decent topic on their own. Thank you all for the great comments and ideas. they were quite thought provoking.
