Personal background
1 Computer at home - 2.4 P4 and 1 at work 1.8 P4. Usually they don't run at the same time. I own a screening/embroidery shop in NW Arizona and think I am have a severe allergy to snow. I started SETI early in 1999 and was doing about 1 WU a week, after doing a 140 WU's I stop doing SETI for several years. Now that I have several new computers I average over 5 a day.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Like most people involved with SET@home, it appears hard not to believe other life exist in the possible billions of other planets, intellegent life although may be much more rare. The distance between stars create another barrier that makes a discovery much more difficult.

Contact with other 'intellegent' beings would seem to be an acceptable risk. The benefits should outway the risks I would imagine, although there are no cosmic guarentees I would expect. Transmit away I feel, although communication with a 5 to 5000 year lag would seem a tad tedious.

SET&home is a fun way to be involved, if just a small amount, with increasing our understanding of the universe. The science of SETI will also advance at a greater rate due to the huge amount of users involved.
