Siran d'Vel'nahr Greetings Glenn, No, that's quite alright. I uninstalled the BOINC Monitor gadget. :) Yeah, Panda was screaming at me during the install. After getting rid of what Panda found I ran Malwarebytes. Holy crap! It found 70 items! :( I got rid of all that crap too. The nerve of some people. Nothing compromised my SETI account. And all it did to my browser was added 2 unwanted ad extensions. The extensions went away too. :) Sidebar.exe is working as it should since adding the VBS file to restart it once a day. I only have 4 gadgets running: calendar, clock, CPU usage and a weather widget. My RAM usage is also at a respectable level: averaging 39%. I suppose, once Win10 is on this machine, I will no longer have my gadgets. :( Oh well... Thank you for you help, Glenn. :) Keep on BOINCing...! :) CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr - L L & P _\\// Winders 11 OS? "What a piece of junk!" - L. Another thing to consider is the hard drive, bad sectors or a failing drive will also cause that same behaviour that you describe. Get the drive/s manufacturer's test software and test the drive with a long test. Greetings Wiggo, Since I started building my own PCs, back in '96/'97, I have used Western Digital HDDs exclusively. I have yet to have one fail. The only test utility they have is 'DLGDIAG' and it reports that both of my drives pass muster. ;) Thanks for the idea though. :) I'll Google around to see if I can find any other utilities that run more exhaustive tests without harming what's on the drives. I know MS-DOS used to have something called 'chkdsk' or something like that. Windows probably has something too. I'll look into that as well. Thanks Wiggo, Keep on BOINCing...! I only use WD HDD's here too, but "DLGDIAG" is a very old program and the latest software is "WinDlg_v1_28" and running the long test (not the short test) is the best way to go (a drive may pass the short test while failing the long 1). I only mentioned the hard drive test because I've had a few PC's here lately doing the same thing as you described which wound up being failing hard drives. ;-) Cheers. |

-[ snip ]- Greetings Wiggo, Hmmm... I looked in my downloads and found that I have 2 DLGDIAGs. The newest one is v1.27 so I installed it since I could not find where the other one was/is installed at. 1.27 looks identical to the older one. Hmmm... I clicked on the 'Help' button and found out there is much more to the utility than what appears. ;) I ran the long test and the drive was reported with a big green check mark. Good as gold! So, I believe that rules out the HDD bring the cause. :) Thanks again Wiggo! :) Keep on BOINCing...! :) CAPT Siran d'Vel'nahr - L L & P _\\// Winders 11 OS? "What a piece of junk!" - L.
