This was my idea on posting permission:

A modest proposal

cRunchy-
Yes- point taken.
I agree that a restriction should be placed on those who do not contribute to the the project, as NA has suggested.
And I can see how my rejection of the concept of scoring a post is in a sense a 'vote' - a score if you wish
Typing is what I'm doing here
Ignore it if you want
But dont strike it because you dont like it...cc

Why should it be "hidden".. Your posts have never been of a disruptive nature.. Speaking ones mind and trying to extort people to accept your point of view are two different animals.

Every one has an opinion (save the puns), but it how we express those opinion that matters. I have yet to see you express yourself with anything but respect and honesty..

Carl. That's the thing that got me also because I have never seen or felt you to be a destructive person so in many ways the framework people are building here would hardly affect you or many others at all..

Not all rules are meant to control people some are actually meant to protect the good we have... though as in every walk of life we accept some rough with the smooth.

That would cause a catch 22 for people who post to 'ask how to get boinc to connect' type of questions.

I completely understand Carl Cuseo's concern. It is a restriction of speech (not censorship), and that is abhorent to many of us. Carl's concerns are rooted in an abstract idea, which has its place, but a practical matter facing us now calls for a solution. The solution we have so far applied is voluntary application of a group decision to ignore certain users. This is unsatisfactory as the offender can continue to post (offensive) threads and multiple posts keeping them in the way of more generally acceptable posts.

So what's the solution? I suggest starting with a set of clear rules and notice to all SETI@home participants (whether they post or not) that Berkeley reserves the right to remove and/or block posts and participants must agree to these restrictions as a condition of participation in the project. Some users may leave as a matter of principle, but those who remain may have a better experience on all boards.

I agree. I touched briefly on the subject in 7578, even though I was talking about spamming in general.

I still hold firm that 0-CPU/-RAC/-WU "users" should be limited to the Q&A dept. until they've crunched. Then after cruching, you earn the privilege of getting into Science and Numbers (250cr?) , and the Café (500cr?)

I guess thats the point really. The only thing any of us have been able to notice recently around here has been the attempted 'coup' by the destructive ones..

I'm just fed up of it.. sorry if I over laboured my point though...

it all makes me look forward to some nice normal everyday boring old stuff happening :)
