How long has it been since you have cleaned out the dust bunnies? |

Check heatsinks/fans, clean dust, and try TThrottle to limit the temperature. Â ![]() ![]() Â |

Because your computers are hidden, I am just throwing this out. I have a Mac Pro (brand new) and it's not able to run flat out without producing high heat levels. I had to shut down one of the two graphics processors to control the heat. I could have left both graphic processes active and shut down the CPU processing with the same results. My problems is because Apple mounted everything on a single heat sink and it's not big enough to handle everything. If you are running a laptop, they tend to have a limited ability to handle heat and you need to throttle the system to control the amount of heat. The others may be able to tell you more about controlling the problem if you tell them more about the type of computer/case you are running. |

no significant dust there used to be a setting in preferences to select the number of cores to use it indicated a reduction would reduce heating i do not see that setting listed anymore i'm running 6 out of 9 where do i find TThrottle |

"6 out of 9" - what - I would assume you are talking about CPU cores, but that doesn't make much sense as most CPU have 1, 2, 4, 6, 8... cores. The option for setting the number of CPU cores used is still there, take a look at BOINC manager, advanced view, tools, computing preferences, processor usage (this is a percentage of the number of CPU cores) TThrottle is a third party tool, use Google to find it. Un-hiding your computers would allow people to see what processors you are using, and then make more productive suggestions for solutions. Unhiding DOES NOT allow anyone to do anything to your computer, only see its configuration - take a look at mine and you will see the information that we can see. no significant dust Would be better still to fix the actual cause of the overheating. Grant Darwin NT |

I have re read this thread a few times. I would guess that its his CPU overheating? As his computers are still hidden, I wonder if he has just some plain worn out thermal paste on his CPU? I had that happen on my old XP box after running it 9 years 24/7. Just a thought. ![]() Old James |

Check heatsinks/fans, clean dust, and try TThrottle to limit the temperature. Just installed this version on WinXP computer...and it gives be BSOD with error on cputemperature.sys file...any clue about it? Does anybody have similar problem? ;) ![]() ![]() non-profit org. If you have a desktop computer, leave one side of the case open and have a normal desktop fan blow some air into it.That helps a lot. |

Check heatsinks/fans, clean dust, and try TThrottle to limit the temperature. I use TThrottle 7.20 on Windows XP And now I see: "TThrottle 7.52 (Doesn't work with Xp)" "TThrottle 7.30 (Last XP version)" http://efmer.com/b/tthrottle_download_release  ![]() ![]()  |

Will try with ver 7.20 Don't know if it's 'cause of the old system? Or is it 'cause of the version of software? :/ If you have a desktop computer, leave one side of the case open and have a normal desktop fan blow some air into it.That helps a lot. it's already opened...but it's an old ABIT BP6 board...good only for WInXP & some easy crunching like OET on WCG...doesn't give much points, but give so much computational h! :D ![]() ![]() non-profit org. Will try with ver 7.20 I wish I still had one of my BP6 boards. I think it was about 12 years ago when my last one died. :( SETI@home classic workunits: 93,865 CPU time: 863,447 hours ![]() |

I wish I still had one of my BP6 boards. I think it was about 12 years ago when my last one died. :( Well, mine still works...even after soldering the few CAPs on it...& it's crunching data! But, I have to keep the temps down...they are about 50-55°C for the CPUs right now! Even though they can take up to 70°C ( http://ark.intel.com/products/27189/Intel-Celeron-Processor-533-MHz-128K-Cache-66-MHz-FSB ), wouldn't like to risk it... :D ![]() ![]() non-profit org. TThrottle will not work with this CPU - it have no internal temperature sensor  ![]() ![]()  |

It should still work with out temperature control, just back it off to 70% usage, or whatever gives reasonable temps. ![]() |

TThrottle will not work with this CPU - it have no internal temperature sensor but the BP6 does have a temp sensor...doesn't it work with MBO temps? :/ ![]() ![]() non-profit org. Play4Life in Zagreb, Croatia, EU |
