Igor.
It so obvious that Kremlin are using the Russian people to make Russia a glourious state in Europe. It all began with Tsar Peter the Great, who actually did great things to the Russian people. One successor was Tsar Alexander the II who also did a lot of great thing to Finland.

But all the other Russian leaders who seem so very popular in Russia.
Stalin of course but now Putin who still Thinks it the 20'th centuary.
Actually many Russians still belives that Stalin was good to Russia.

To us in the western world it's totally incomprehensible....

Soviet POWs, who died in German concentration camps, about 3,3 million, they died not in battles, it's incorrect to say "waste manpower like they did in WW2", it's other case.

Again, irrelevant. Even if the Germans had treated those soldiers like human beings and they had survived the war, it was still wasted manpower, because captured soldiers CANT FIGHT. If you fight in such a way that 3.3 million of your soldiers get captured by your enemy, you are fighting in a very wasteful manner. And mind you, the initial Red Army size was about 4.8 million troops. So losing 3.3 million soldiers in the initial stages of the war, well that represents a loss of about 3/4 of your army.

The Germans lost somewhere between 4,3 million to 5,5 million soldiers. But not only the Germans was on the Eastern front, you forget about the Italians, Hungarians, Romanians, Finns, etc., about one million deaths. And the Soviet citizens in the German military also, about 200,000 deaths.

That barely improves the ratio, and it remains squarely in favor of the Germans.

Furthermore, the Red Army had to recruit about 29 million conscripts to win from the Nazis, while the Wehrmacht has only recruited about 18 million troops over the course of 1935-1945 (thus even at its highest point it was less than 18 million). Sorry, but again that spells inefficiency to me.

You forget about the millions of Nazis allies in the Eastern front - Italians, Hungarians, Romanians, Finns. Also you forget about the Japan Kwantung Army (more one million troops) that was on the Eastern borders of USSR (and previous events of Battle of Lake Khasan and Battles of Khalkhin Gol clearly showed the Japan intentions), so a big part of the Soviet army was there. Turkey also could begin the war against the USSR, so about 20 Soviet divisions was located near the Turkey border.

And the Russians had solid intel that the Japanese weren't really interested in starting a war with them. Which is why they could pull most of those troops out and send them to fight the Nazis.

Not in summer of 1941 but later. And very many troops remained in Russian Far East.

Crimea is not Russia’s only land grab in the post-Soviet neighbourhood. Russia has just signed an integration treaty effectively abolishing the border between Russia and South Ossetia, a separatist enclave of Georgia. In practice, it is hard to see much difference between integration à la South Ossetia and annexation.

YES!
Here's what Russia/Soviet did and soon will do again.

The Catalina affair (Swedish: Catalinaaffären) was a military confrontation and Cold War-era diplomatic crisis in June 1952, in which Soviet fighter jets shot down two Swedish aircraft over international waters in the Baltic Sea. The first aircraft to be shot down was an unarmed Swedish Air Force Tp 79, a derivative of the Douglas DC-3, carrying out radio and radar signals intelligence-gathering for the National Defence Radio Establishment. None of the crew of eight was rescued. The second aircraft to be shot down was a Swedish Air Force Tp 47, a Catalina flying boat, involved in the search and rescue operation for the missing DC-3. The Catalina's crew of five was saved. The Soviet Union publicly denied involvement until its dissolution in 1991. Both aircraft were located in 2003, and the DC-3 was salvaged.

WWIII has already started.........Crimea was Putin's Sudetenland and Iraq/Syria is Iran's 'Spanish' civil war to 'blood' the troops and test tactics.

When(not if)the Iran talks disintegrate and they lob a nuke at Israel the world will find out just who in the middle east ALSO have nukes, and thus will begin Armageddon.

Couldnt agree more.

Indeed, what idiot would start WW3 over some Russian aircraft entering your airspace. Yeah its provocative, which is exactly why you don't react to it, other than escorting those planes out of your airspace.
