I also have a few pieces of software that I use to restore and declick old vinyl. They really work well.

So did I.
But when Youtube came along I dont play vinyls any more.
But the backups, that is my vinyls, will last a lifetime:)

I do need a new Ortofon.

I bought a Thorens turntable with a SME tonearm in the mid 70's.

Sounds better than CD players and working still.

But it's not really true. Today you both compress and amplify the sound to much on CD material.
I have even a CD where the Music is distorted because of some idiots. I used a software to even the peaks out and there it was.
Music:)

I have a Denon table that has a platter alone that weighs about 40 pounds.
It is balanced better than an aircraft flywheel.

It was at the time, factory certified as to minimum rumble spec, with special bearings. At the time, I was in contact with both Denon and Ortofon to get this specially manufactured. This is a studio grade certified reference turntable.
Most studios do not have such a turntable, and many labs with cutting lathes don't have such a reference table available to them.

The studios are making much more quality sound today.
The problem is that the record Company pricks are destroying it to please radio, headphone listeners and many more.
For example Steve Morse - Derailleur Gears

This Youtube clip sounds a heck of lot better than my CD!

I have been in the industry long enough to know some people and have access to things some of you do not.
I knew Les Paul personally, he lived only about 100 miles south of here, in Milwaukee.
I won't go as far as to say we were pals, but we shared a love of technology and how to go about recording things the kept us in touch.
We knew about the recording process, worked with it to improve it, and both realized how important it was to be able to accurately record and preserve music.

We both knew how important that was. He was really something, Les was.
He made a turntable from an aircraft flywheel, and I copied him shortly therafter.
Where does one get an aircraft flywheel, you might ask?
I have an airport 10 miles south of here, and the mechanics were both interested and amused to accomodate me. They really wanted to see what I could do with it.
And just why I was so intent on doing so.

Les made a cutting lathe out of one,................it actually speced out better than one at Capitol Records, and they actually rented time on it from Les for some years afterwards, because it was cheaper than getting Scully to contract for a new cutting lathe.
These things were built on contract, and Scully was about the only show in town, so you paid what they asked without any negotiation.

I have in my possession, two full track Scully decks that I obtained from an insurance company production studio the was liquidated. It was something of a twist of fate that I got them....
One has 1/4 track heads, and the other has full 1/2 inch heads. And can record full track at 15 freaking inches per second.
I contacted Nortronics years ago to ask if they could still make heads for it...

The dude on the phone was a head engineer, and asked....YOU HAVE THOSE MACHINES?????? What?? How??
You actually have those decks?????? How in the hell?///

He actually offered me 10 grand for them. I declined. Yup, 10 grand.
And I still have them.

Apparently, Scully and Ampex made ONE of these sets of decks for the biggest insurance company locally for their PR department. Custom job. And he wanted them back so badly he damned near flew from New York to Wisconsin if I had agreed.
I have the full tech manual as well. It is mind numbing in complexity.

You wanna know how to set the phase shift on a 1/2 track recording head at 15 IPS, uh, I can guide you through it, but it is not easy. Proper phase alignment on recording heads is not a simple task. And phase alignment was critical to get recordings just right before taking them to be cut on the lathe for transfer to vinyl. It had to be perfect. And could take hours to get it right.

Myself and another sound engineer would sometimes stare at each other with really evil looks at one another and do this WTF thing at each other until we figured out which trim pot to tweak to make it right.

Very much country Music...
Anyway
Gothenburg's 'Way Out West' has attracted more than 20,000 people every year since it started in August 2007. With artists mainly from the rock, electronic and hip-hop genres, it is one of the hottest festivals in Sweden. The line-up this year includes alternative music stars such as Florence & The Machine joining forces with British singer-songwriter Ellie Goulding and homegrown pop artist Tove Lo. The queen of country music, Emmylou Harris, who was recently awarded Sweden's prestigious Polar Prize, will also be there.
When? August 13th-15th.

To me US country Music is very much this:)

Or is it the alternative football song at the World Cup in USA 1994?

Freddie Mercury had one of the purest male or female voices ever. His range and power were incredible.

However..............I'd rather watch paint dry than soccer. Sorry if that offends anyone(or everyone). I'll take good old American 'give me a concussion' Football any day.

And then there are the 'fringe benefits'.........

Again, sorry. Wrong shaped ball, and I consider Rap to be noise not music.

Now a great Baseball ode to a less than stellar team would be by the late Steve Goodman.......https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xBxZGQ1dJk

And my opinions about Freddy are well known.
He was an amazing artist, and sadly missed by myself.
His voice was something not to be trifled with.
Range? Yes, simply incredible.
Few artists in the world have ever had such.
