I cannot see any name calling or insults in my post, the link is a photo of a trucker's breakfast that has 2 lovely eggs on the plate :-) As for the RAC comment, well the thread is titled patience levels & to be honest, patience is required for any cruncher to get their RAC to any level :-) |

@Chris, I am not and never will be an American Citizen. I am a proud German, just being a guest in the USA for the sake of my children. I grew up with fresh eggs, brown, not sure what breed they were. Cost ZERO. Double yokes evenso not common where a nice surprise. None of my client have chickens and my HOA doesn't allow me to have some, so either drive out of the way or just buy them at the store. There is a definete differance in taste. Also eggs labeled as L now seem to be a size M. The last batch I bought had stamps on them. Still cost me $2.99 on sale. As to patience. People try me everyday. You want me to prepare your taxes correctly (paid and licensed), yet you argue with me, because some free software site gave you a bigger estimate of your refund. Get a grip, because you have a choice, just don't come crying to me, when you get an audit letter and I have to charge you to fix it. Pluto will always be a planet to me. Eggs are "suddenly" more expensive in California because we voters passed legislation to improve the living conditions of chickens. California voters in 2008 approved a law backed by animal rights advocates to get egg-laying hens out of cramped cages and put them, by Jan. 1, 2015, in larger enclosures that give them room to stretch, turn around and flap their wings. So as you can see, this legislation has recently been fully implemented. It now costs more for farmers to have chickens and so the cost of eggs has gone up. You cannot sell eggs in California that come from other states unless these chicken living conditions have been met. You can imagine just how thrilled farmers in other states are with us... Even with the price increase, eggs are still a relatively inexpensive protein compared to most cuts of beef, lamb and pork, most cuts of poultry and most varieties of fish and shellfish. Beans and lentils are still cheaper and probably better for us, but they don't make good brownies, cakes and cookies. |

I'm a very patient person when driving in the snow, but there are some people who just want to show-off their 4-wheel drive and go around everybody, which often leads to accidents. :~( The mind is a weird and mysterious place |

Fascinating :-) But of course complete completely anti-social! So one nerd with the app hold up the whole shop while he scans every box for double yolks, and completely wrecks the display? If I was a store manager I would put up a notice banning its use. That's not very liberal of you. And how big a queue are you expecting next to the eggs? Life on earth is the global equivalent of not storing things in the fridge. |

Simple answer, stick two fingers up and ban all imports of goods from those states. When it REALLY hits their pockets then they will learn. Want to give me a list of these States? I'll write to their Governors quite happily. Any reply I get will be sent to the British national press. Chris, there are 50 States in the USA, 49 of them are not California. You have your list. |

Just because you have a 4 wheel drive vehicle dosent mean you can stop any faster than two wheeled one. Plus the faster you go means you have less control when you do hit that big ass slush pile in your lane, Or crossing into another lane. I have a saying when a 4 wheel drive vehicle passes me at high speed. I will see you in a ditch later on. Slow and steady gets you home safe and sound. [/quote] Old James |

Plus the faster you go means you have less control when you do hit that big ass slush pile in your lane, Or crossing into another lane. I used to have a Ford Orion RS (front wheel drive, no driver aids at all, 190+ bhp after some fettling), fitted with good winter tyres from around October to March, never once had an issue with getting stuck or losing control, and only mild sliding on occasion. But then i did do a winter driving course about seven years ago which taught me a great deal. People get too reliant on technology, they think that just because they have ABS, traction control, etc, they can drive around with impunity whatever the weather. Then they only realise at a point four feet from the tree and closing fast that this is not the case. Then they blame the council for not gritting the road properly. I remember an episode of Top Gear several years ago where they discussed driving in Finland. Training starts at 15 and it takes a minimum of 3 years to gain a full license. Part of that training is six sessions on a skid-pan. I don't have any statistics for crash rates and fatalities in Finland, but i'd surprised if it wasn't a single figure percentage of that of the UK. I think this goes hand in hand with the reduced attention spans on so many people nowadays, constantly plugged into their electronic gizmos. The mind is a weird and mysterious place |

Farmers in other states have a simple choice - sell their eggs to our very populous state by complying with our new law, or don't. There is no egg shortage here, just higher prices. You have such a draconian view of our country!!! I have traveled extensively in my country and I have never encountered the animosity that you so frequently post about. I assure you that our states are quite united. |

Actually it is statements like this one that make me laugh: ...America is NOT the UNITED States it brags about and hasn't been for centuries. They are just a disparate collection of fiefdoms and Lords of the Manor which we gave up in the Middle ages. But you have to understand that a country as large as theirs simply cannot be controlled by a single central government like ours is. It has to be devolved, but in so doing they lose control over it. The entire UK could fit into the state of Texas nearly 3 times. I have never seen my country as a collection of fiefdoms and Lords of the Manor. We just happen to be a country with a history of states rights, because what works for Iowa may not be right for... say, New Mexico. I will admit that you will find some conflicting laws. For example, unless posted otherwise, I can turn right on a red light out here in California. (Now other states have something to be jealous of besides our sunny weather.) But Chris should know that we have federal laws that cover the "big stuff". Sure we are currently immersed in what the media loves to call the "culture wars", but come on!!! Our country survived a civil war. Our current "culture wars" are NOTHING compared that. To quote our president, "The state of our union is strong." |

I'm not writing to all 49 of them! Give me the top 1/2 dozen worst and I will, I promise. http://america.aljazeera.com/articles/2015/2/20/the-short-brutal-life-of-male-chickens.html |

You guys don't get a choice, one bolshie State Governor and you all do as you are told. Heck, even "has been" film stars will do at a pinch. Nonsense!!! In addition to the senators and representatives who represent us in the federal government, we have a state legislature made up of elected representatives. We also have a judiciary branch at the state level. And please do not forget that people elect the governor and can just as easily elect somebody else the next time around. On top of that, counties and cities have local governments to deal with local issues. Chris, I assure you that there is nothing "fief-ish" about the way we rule ourselves!!! Sure we have had some "has been" film stars govern our state. One even went on to become president. I always say that in a democracy, the people get the government they deserve. Sometimes the people make silly choices, but they are our choices to make and the people have the ability to change things up, should they grow wiser. So please stop insulting our form of government or I shall have to point out that you people still have a "House of Lords". I do declare Chris, you bring out the jingoist in me... and given my political leanings that is not an easy thing for people to do!!! |

The president is indirectly elected by the people through the Electoral College. True, and a national embarrassment if the popular vote is not consistent with the Electoral College. This system harkens back to our love of states rights and personally, I would like to see it changed... but Problem No. 1??? I think not. |

The president is indirectly elected by the people through the Electoral College. Question, changed so that candidates have to spend even more money buying advertisements to be elected, which they get from special interests who do not want the best for the country but the best for themselves, the country be damned? Or changed so that the candidates don't have to raise obscene amounts of money (bribes) to be elected? Unfortunately direct election tends to mean more and more bribe money. As a crazy alternative, elect the electoral college before the candidates are allowed to announce. Then the candidates are only chasing 535 voters. It doesn't take piles of cash to reach that few and hopefully forecloses a lot of the special interest bribes. Anything that reduces the influence of political parties is correct. |
