I've been away for awhile, and now that I've returned I see we can use GPUs to crunch. I have an MSI HD6770 video card (yea, not great but its all I got) and its not getting any work. Looking at my computer in my profile it says GPU "---". Is this card crunch capable? If so how can I get this thing to chew on some work? XP 32bit (sticking with it, legacy apps and stuff...) 1) HD6770 1GB GPU Driver Packaging Version .......... 8.961-120405a-137134C-ATI Catalystâ„¢ Version ................. 12.4 Provider .......................... That GPU is certainly capable, it's just that the drivers that you use dropped OpenCL support for Windows XP. So you need older drivers than 12.4, like these Catalyst 12.1, the last ones with OpenCL included. OpenCL is the language of choice here at the project to do the calculation in. |

Thanks Ageless, that certainly explains it. I used to run 12.1 but "upgraded" to 12.4 during troubleshooting playing Kerbal Space Program (I'm terrible). I will roll back to 12.1 on my next maintenance schedule. I did read the release notes about Catalyst dropping OpenCL, but didn't think much of it because at that time because I wasn't crunching and didn't remember it. I'll update this post when I do the rollback. |

This topic can be considered solved. Now running on Cataylst 12.1, and my video card is doing some work. Thanks again Ageless. |

Guess I am facing the same problem. I am using an AMD Radeon R9 200 and after stumbling upon this thread, I switched back to the Catalyst 12.1 driver, recommended by Ageless. However, it still says "GPU ---" in my profile. OS is Win 7 64 Bit. Would really like to contribute as efficient as possible :) Thanks for your help. |

If you installed BOINC as a service, you cannot use the GPU. Try uninstalling and re-installing BOINC and making sure the service option is not checked. |

Okay, that was almost too easy. Thank you! The GPU is crunching now :) |

An update/question on this topic as well. I installed another GPU and edited the cc_config.xml file as necessary to use both GPUs. They both crunch fine as-is, but I wonder if this is possible to get the most out of crunching... Is it possible to get BOINC to use my 2nd GPU at full power while I'm only using my primary GPU? Right now it seems that BOTH GPUs are either fully used, or not at all. The reason is; I do a lot of useless/light work on my machine and it would be nice if my 2nd GPU is fully utilized while I'm doing such trivial work while leaving my primary GPU alone so I can work. Then when I leave the computer, my primary GPU can then be fully utilized for crunching. * I want to be able to use my main GPU for work and my secondary GPU for crunching while my CPU cores are also crunching. * When machine is not in use, both GPUs are crunching as well as my CPU cores. * A lot of times, I don't mind BOINC crunching with my CPUs while I'm doing trivial stuff on the computer. |

There is no way that I know of currently to do what you're asking. |
