I just read that Canada, along with Australia has decided to disallow any visas from the african nations where the ebola virus has taken hold.

Time to Bash the Australian Government .

What can i expect from a Liberal party first to go to war last to help with Ebola now They stop issuing Visa's to come here but still WONT HELP .

So this is what we get when you elect a Rodes Schooler what a con .

Selection[edit]
Rhodes' legacy specified four standards by which applicants were to be judged:
Literary and scholastic attainments;
Energy to use one's talents to the fullest, as exemplified by fondness for and success in sports;
Truth, courage, devotion to duty, sympathy for and protection of the weak, kindliness, unselfishness and fellowship;
Moral force of character and instincts to lead, and to take an interest in one's fellow beings.
This legacy originally provided for scholarships for the British colonies, the United States, and Germany. These three were chosen because it was thought that " ... a good understanding between England, Germany and the United States of America will secure the peace of the world ... "[13]

So Tony Abbot how did you get your scholarship mate ! you do not meet the criteria to have a Rhode Scholarship , oh right your a lieing S.O.B that has coned your why to the top.

Mitt Romney gives 29.4% to charity. Pretty selfless.

only if he hasn't claimed it on his taxes otherwise it's just a way to get out of paying taxes and is the rule you should be looking at when chossing your Leader if this sort of thing is promoted in such a way as to say look at me i'm great i give all this money away vote for me as i'm a nice bloke .

Said like a true liberal, charity is evil.

Then you pitch a bitch because no one in your country is going to help. Did you ever consider where the money for charity comes from?

I hope your country has some conservatives that step up to the donation plate.

Gary i'm sorry for you as you can't see that giving 29.4 % to charity and then claiming back on your taxes is a form of social security and it's the worst type as people are left to bugging charities foe help.

3,000,000 aprox he gets payed now if the tax rate is 30% that's 900,000 tax aprox

3,000,000 less 900,000 tax deduction is 2,100,000 now tax on that is aprox 600,000 . So he get 1.5 million after taxes plus he get's 900,000 back from the gov as tax deuction so he actually took home 2.4 million

so Mitt Romney has engaged in tax avoidance and is 300,000 bucks better off

now if you get rid or limit this you Americans will have to finally have a social security system like most other 1st world country's , but you can't admit your whole system is not working and is bad and we all know you won't admit your wrong

I'm not whinging about our country i'm bashing them as i do others and show no favour just because it's our government .

Yes i know where the money comes from honest people that don't try to get out off paying there taxes our charity's do ok and we don't have your B/S system

Glenn,
I think you might need to be a bit more informed on this subject.

Per US Tax Law, If your adjusted gross income is over:
$150,000 if married filing separately,
$250,000 if single,
$275,000 if head of household, or
$300,000 if married filing jointly or qualifying widow(er)

your itemized deductions (this includes deductions for charitable donations) begin to be limited.
http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p526.pdf
see page 13 of the document, under the 'limits on deductions' section.

Furthermore, in NO case can you deduct for charitable donations more than 50% of your adjusted gross income, and in some types of donations (long-term capital gains property) the limit can be as low as 20% of adjusted gross income.

Don't worry. The 'EBUL RICH' people can't scam the US Government out of ALL of its tax money.

But you are getting off topic. Please start another thread if you wish to discuss comparative tax policy. Lets keep this thread on 'Ebola and Infectious diseases', shall we?

@glenn, I suspect you don't understand the US tax system.
http://www.csmonitor.com/Business/The-Simple-Dollar/2011/1219/How-much-will-charity-help-your-tax-bill
So, charitable donations are a great thing and they do offer some tax savings, but you don’t save $1 for every dollar you donate. Instead, you often reduce your tax bill roughly a quarter or so for every dollar you donate.

Yes, this is getting off topic. Back to donating to help Ebola victims.

West Africans fortunate to survive Ebola may go on to develop what's being called "post-Ebola syndrome," characterized by vision loss and long-term poor health, a doctor told a World health Organization.

I bet she got flooded with email's and txt and tweets and that is what changed her stance .

Public health problem like this should never be turned into civil liberties .

Only after the problem is gone do you whinge , protest and then only if laws or what ever the gov deemed to be appropriate is not repealed .

Better still just put yourself in quarantine or isolation and gov wont need to pass stupid draconian laws .

Gooba Gaba i have no problem with raising money through donations but not if you only get them because of a tax rort .
There is no oversight on how , where the money the gov has had to pay due to the genouroity of your people , a defacto social security with out oversight .But no worry's i understand your Brain washed and don't understand your own taxation system .

I wonder if is long term or short term. Obviously it is to early to tell in this crisis. That they survived a deadly virus, Im sure there own bodies used up every resource it had to live. I would expect some repuercussions. Now vision loss is scary.
edit- It seems to be that in past epidemics that survors felt like crap for up to a year and a half after they survived. But I saw no mention of losing eye sight in them. just in this last epidemic. The Dr. did state information was lacking about eye health in the past. So maybe the who can start gathering data abot the after effects going on now.

Spanish Ebola Nurse Leaves Hospital Still Mourning 'Executed' Dog

A Spanish nursing assistant who recovered from Ebola credited health care workers with saving her life and offered Wednesday to donate blood to help cure others. Still, Teresa Romero slammed Spanish officials for killing her beloved dog, saying the mixed breed named Excalibur was unnecessarily "executed."

Happy she's recovered, feel bad about her dog.

I believe that she originally planned to follow the CDC guidelines issued to returning workers from west africa. These were based on self monitoring (i.e. temp) and taking appropriate measures to ensure you limit interactions with general public/use appropriate hand sanitation etc for 21 days. Her objection was to being placed in mandatory quarantine when this was not medically indicated. I believe she was always following the CDC guidelines, both before and after her quarantine..

And outside of the one reporter who shook her hand everyone else of them stayed the CDC 3 feet away. As to publicity, in the USA all court cases are tried in the news media and she had a court case pending.

She is selfless for going over to treat Ebola, and selfless for fighting for the rights of every health care worker who will follow her to Africa to treat Ebola.

Anyone with half a dozen brain cells knows the movie deals would be for those who got sick and "a miracle" happened and they recovered.

Money and some coercion from a friend or hubby i'm shore had something to do with it .

Either way it was a very silly thing to do and does make what she was doing sus

Ebola outbreak in Dallas officially ends

The Ebola outbreak in Dallas officially ends Friday, as time runs out for monitoring people who came into contact with the deadly disease.

The last person to be monitored is an unidentified hospital worker who handled infectious medical waste on Oct. 17. Twenty-six others have been pronounced healthy and released from monitoring since Wednesday.
