Just a word of cation about the AMD FX CPU if you upgrade to it then you must get a better PSU at lest 28 amp on the 12 volt rail. I had a 700 watt in the machine when i upgraded to the AMD well it lasted 1 month then died 2 days after i put a second GPU in and asked it to use just 1 more core but it was to much , i was doing 6 on CPU and the 2 GPU's 2 each but when i asked to use 7 cores it just died. The 700 watt showed as 11.88 volt on the 12 volt rail i should have relised there was not enough power getting to the CPU and that was before the 2nd GPU. I have now put a 28 amp and that just does so i will have to put a 38 amp which i have on order 12 volt drops from 12.55 to 12.05 old PSU was 11.88 volt. Diff was 4 amps from 24 amp to 28 amp Lesson is to check your PSU if your going to use a AMD FX 8350 and make shore the 12 volt rail is at least as a minimum 28 amp You may notice you mite have troubble keeping it cool new PSU higher ampage on the 12 volt has cooled mine by 3-5 degrees so look for over heating as a sign your PSU is not up to the task ![]() |

Well it happened again last night a 850 watt power supply units died only lasted 5 days man i'm getting peed off with this . I am starting to suspect that the mobo is the problem as right now i have another 850 watt in it and i can only run 2 cpu units and 1 GPU card running 1 unit and still the 12 volt power drops to under 12 volt it also starts at 12.35 volt but the same power tested in the other machine which is Intel shows power at 12.6 volt and this is where the problem is i think Could anybody with a FX 8350 chip please tell me what the start off voltage of the 12 volt is so i can get a idea if the mobo is the problem or weather i have to buy some special Psu for this F%^king thing Could you also please tell me the wattage of your power supply and model so i can compeare please 1 last thing my mobo is crossfire ready but not sli could there be a problem with running nvidia cards on a mobo that doesn't support sli and only crossfire ? or could this be why the 12 volt starts off lower than it should be ? IE: mobo was designed for raideon not Nvidia and this is why 12 volt drops so much when i turn GPU on ? ![]() |

As long as it's an AMD motherboard I don't think it's a big issue whether or not it's SLI or Crossfire, since we don't use either of those in crunching. My 8350 originally had a 650 then a 750 and finally a 1300 W PSU but only because I kept upgrading the GPUs and adding more of them. It was stable with the 650 PSU and 2 GTX 650 Ti in there. Currently (if I'm reading this right) it's using +12.02 V. Back to Wiggo's question, Brand, and type (bronze, gold, platinum) of PSU you are using? Zalster |

Hi wiggo so far i have used a 700 watt coolerpower a 850 watt coolerpower a 850 watt honli The first was my old power supply it was fine till i started to use the second GTX 650 then lasted about 24hrs the second 1 has lasted 5 days with both gpu's the last 1 i have in it now but i'm using only 4 cores and the 12 volt is showing 11.952 - 12.05 and if i turn the GPU on it will get down to 11.7 and then die in a few hours so i gotta make this 1 last till next week at least ![]() |

(bronze, gold, platinum) of PSU none of the PSU have gold, silver , bronze on packages(boxes) The 850 coolerpower is 80 plus certified I think the 700 coolerpower was too ![]() |

That was an interesting read. 850 watt PSU failed after he took it above 500 watts. Very interesting indeed. Thanks Bil |

Zalster could you do me a favour suspend Bionic and tell me what the starting voltage is at idle just so i can totally eliminate the mobo as all the PSU's i have try'd started of at 12.35 volt max at idle . At least if there starting of at the right voltage the the mobo prob is ok and i have just been cheaping out with the psu's and will have to bite the bullet so to speak and fork out some serious cash to get a good PSU not that i have the funds but where there is a will i will find a way ![]() |

The Cooler Power brand is regarded as a "Yum Cha"/"No Name" supplier of cheap and much over rated power supplies (usually they'll max out at half their rating, or go "POP!"). :-( I mainly use Corsair TX or Antec High Current PSU's myself for PC's that are required for high CPU/GPU loads (my 2 my main rigs use Corsair TX 850's & my old test rig is a 620W Antec High Current Gamer) [edit] Just check their electrical spec's out. ;-) [edit II] Link fixed. Cheers. |

Check the links, they are both: http://www.antec.com/product.php?id=705197&fid=5022035 ...and for me auto-change to: http://www.antec.com/?page=cookieSet&url=/product.php?id=705197&fid=5022035 ... which shows the exact same home page as: http://www.antec.com/ Â ![]() ![]() Â |

Wiggo $100 is ok the 1 i bought last week was $80 odd i was expecting you to say $190 which is getting out of what i can muster at the moment but 100-140 i can just make Thanks i have alook around next week and see if i can get a 850 gold version if you are not having trouble with them , Can i ask what the 12 volt power is when you have it flat out . edit don't worry your running I5 intel so they don't need as much power i'll have to get more than 850 mm but thanks ![]() |

Just stick to 1 that only has one beefy 12V rail in it, leave the dual/multi-rail 1's alone. Cheers. |

mm Wiggo why do you say that the 1 in it now i think has 1 rail it only has 1 power cable for GPU'but this 1 can't handle the power requirements and is 850 watt mind you it is a cheap 1 , Hunui ![]() |

Just stick to 1 that only has one beefy 12V rail in it, leave the dual/multi-rail 1's alone. This is very good advice. Single rail PSU's are the way to go. Steve Warning, addicted to SETI crunching! Crunching as a member of GPU Users Group. GPUUG Website |
