I see a comedy of errors unfolding. And It aint funny. Ive seen the pictures from Africa that showed the medical people in full decked out gear from head to toe and some of them still got Ebola. Then I read where the nurses in Texas had skin exposed. So Id say the CDC was being over optimistic in what was protective gear. This was all predicted, but nobody did a damn thing to stop it. All I heard and read was western medicine will stop it dead in its tracks as soon as it comes into our (Name your country) Its to bad we have stupid humans who make bad choices to screw things up. As for the CDC letting Ebola Mary fly home was the most stupidest. I would hope that from now on that if you had contact with some one who has Ebola you go into a 21 day lock down. But thats just common sense. The Politicians dont have any.
Old James |

Absolutely disgusting! The UK for example can send India £340 million in aid, send Pakistan over £300 million for "security" in the fight against terrorism, yet we see this: - "However, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on Thursday made another urgent appeal for funds to help fight the disease, saying a $1bn trust fund he launched last month had received only $100,000." Full report |

Neither is yours, as seen by the slip-ups already made in the States. Anymore to come do you think? |

The logic I don't understand is the claim that banning incoming flights from the affected west african countries would make it easier for infected persons to enter the USA or any other country for that matter. Golly gee wiz, they have a thing called a flight manifest that is computerized. If a passenger boards a plane in Liberia that is questionable and it's initial destination is an airport in europe that would give the authorities several hours to make sure that, or those, passenger(s) do not board a flight to north or south america. We need to set up a new Ellis Island where people who have possibly been exposed to this virus can take a 21 day break. If they decide that is not acceptable then they can go somewhere else. If I were a member of a terrorist organization bent on causing havoc among the western nations and especially the USA I would be in the region convincing the locals that the USA and europe have a cure and all they have to do to be cured is to get here. Gosh, golly, why they would never fly to some other airport and then hop on a plane to the USA now would they? They would never fly into Canada or Mexico and drive across the border now would they? What official? The ones in nearly every country that isn't an American ally who would only be too happy to get an infection out of their country? Before Snowden the NSA / CIA might have been able to read those manifests, but now they encrypt them and it takes a while to break them. More than enough time for them to fly into the USA. Even assuming they don't change names while they are on the ground. |

Most 3rd world countries need a transfer visa to fly into the European Union. They have to disclose where they are going, connecting flights, where they are coming from. It should be easy for the State Department to get it's hands on those for incoming flights. It's all political. The government doesn't want to admit there is a problem with controlling the southern border, so they continue to allow incoming flights. In their eyes, better to have these "slip ups" than admit they have a failed policy on immigration. If ebola every ended up in New York or Washington DC, you wouldn't be able to see how fast they pass a incoming flight ban. But since it's half way across the country, it doesn't bother them. Now if it was 1 mile away.......... |

Hmm?? Obama’s New Ebola ‘Czar’ Does Not Have Medical, Health Care Background WASHINGTON (CBSDC/AP) — President Barack Obama on Friday turned to a trusted adviser to lead the nation’s Ebola response as efforts to clamp down on any possible route of infection from three Texas cases expanded, reaching a cruise ship at sea and multiple airline flights. http://washington.cbslocal.com/2014/10/17/obamas-new-ebola-czar-does-not-have-medical-health-care-background/ |

Now if it was 1 mile away.......... I agree with you, Zalster, [humor] Well, political considerations (immigration) aside, there is another reason why the elites don't wish the borders (especially the southern border) sealed... Las drogas. Sealing the borders of the USA would make it difficult for los traficantes de drogas to supply the market, driving prices up. Weed and meth may be (and frequently are) produced locally, but la cocaÃna? What would all of them do about their nose-candy? :P But perhaps this speculation belongs over in the cannabis thread... [/humor] But seriously, they do not want to restrict or stop air travel because that would require sealing the borders (and seacoasts) to guarantee effectiveness. They don't want to seal the borders because it contradicts their political objectives. This is a shame. Sealing borders shares partial credit for (thus-far) preventing the West African outbreak from spreading to neighboring countries. http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/A/AF_EBOLA_AFRICA_CONTAINMENT?SITE=AP&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT&CTIME=2014-10-16-14-24-38 What is so wrong with trying it here? Especially in light of the... failures here up to now? |

Hmm?? Yeah, Lynn, I noticed that. I thought that Obama already HAD an obedient lapdog of an official in charge of the Ebola effort... Dr. Friedan of the CDC... Makes one wonder how much longer Friedan is going to be around... Maybe he tried to talk some sense into Obama once too often. But why Ron Klain? Former chief of staff for both VP Biden, former VP Gore, a venture capitalist, and involved in the Solyndra mess. I guess Obama & company love rewarding their buddies. Cronyism at work. |

Oops... Who accused of failure "An internal document said those involved "failed to see some fairly plain writing on the wall", According to Associated Press." |

MajorKong, Ron Klain, known for ... He was portrayed by Kevin Spacey in the HBO film Recount. That's all I know about him. Some good news in Senegal! Ebola Outbreak In Senegal Over: WHO GENEVA (AP) — The U.N. health agency officially declared an end Friday to the Ebola outbreak in Senegal, a rare bit of good news amid the public outcry and fear over the deadly disease that remains out of control in three West African countries. The World Health Organization said it "commends the country on its diligence to end the transmission of the virus," citing Senegal's quick and thorough response. Cases are still spreading in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea, with more than 4,500 deaths. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/10/17/ebola-senegal-over_n_6003056.html |

Texas Health Care Workers Who Treated Ebola Patient Told to Stay Out of Public Places Hospital workers who treated the Ebola patient who died at a Texas hospital are being asked to stay away from any public space for 21 days. The Texas Department of State Health Services has asked the approximately 70 health care workers at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital who entered the room of Ebola patient Thomas Eric Duncan to stay home while they are being monitored during the 21-day Ebola incubation period. The agreement states that the health care worker will not use public transportation, including a plane, bus or train, and will also not enter any kind of public space, including grocery stores and restaurants. http://abcnews.go.com/Health/texas-health-care-workers-treated-ebola-patient-told/story?id=26279477 Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital, should be declared a disaster zone. imho |

Ebola Scare Sends Caribbean Cruise Ship Back Home The presence of a woman who helped care for an Ebola patient who died has left a Caribbean cruise ship unable to dock at foreign tourist ports and is now heading back to Texas. One passenger said the announcement of the woman's presence has created "utter panic" on the Carnival Magic cruise ship, while others remained outwardly unfazed, sunbathing by the outdoor pool. "People are scared,†passenger Jon Malone told ABC News as the ship was waiting miles off shore from Cozumel, Mexico. "I’ve seen people crying.†http://abcnews.go.com/Health/ebola-scare-sends-caribbean-cruise-ship-back-home/story?id=26276019 |

Makes me wonder what ever happend to common sense in the US. The Mistakes made are inexcusable. Right from the hospital to the CDC. From now on any one who treats an Ebola patient should be on lock down right at the hosiptal. They do not go home thet stay in the isolation ward. If the patient lives, The staff who treated him stays in isolation for 21 days. NO exceptions. An Ebola czar with no medical knowledge at all, Is a joke. It sounds like a feel good measure by an idiot president who has no clue what is going on.
Old James |

It's a good way to divert attention from what were the real issues facing the USA just prior to an election. The only thing is now ebola has become a real issue everywhere. Just yesterday I saw on TV the director of the hospital in Dallas still maintaining that no one in direct contact with Mr. Duncan violated protocols. If that is true then maybe someone needs to start re-evaluating whether the virus has mutated in such a way that more severe protocols need to be in force. Common sense is long gone from the USA. It's been replaced by the crazies.... Reports are starting to come in about people claiming they have Ebola and showing up at the ER's wanting treatment. They throw the system into chaos and then they find out these people are lying because they want the individual attention. I can't prove it but I bet if they checked( and I'm sure they have checked) these people they would find mental illness. The lockdown of a hospital with a positive patient is a no brainer. Unfortunately we have a CDC and government with no brains...SMH |
