There's a minimum risk if you see it on a bigger scale... I don't think the victims are looking at a bigger picture, neither are health workers... "But each new case of transmission is asking the question - is enough being done to protect healthcare workers?" |

There's a minimum risk if you see it on a bigger scale... I know, but people should get good guidance, I don't want to go into the DENIAL phase here but there's so little we can do actually.*over and out* rOZZ Music Pictures |

No identity on this patient. Unidentified man with Ebola being treated at Emory is due to be discharged as hospital prepares to receive infected Dallas nurse An American treated for Ebola at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta since Sept. 9 said on Wednesday he was recovering from the virus and expected to be discharged from the hospital soon. The patient, who has not been identified, was working in Sierra Leone when he tested positive for the disease and was evacuated to the United States on a privately-chartered flight. He disclosed the first public details of his condition in a statement released by Emory but said he wished to keep his identity secret for now. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2794604/Ebola-patient-Emory-University-Hospital-says-hes-recovering.html I wonder if the CDC is lying?? |

Obama: Ebola 'SWAT teams' will respond to infections WASHINGTON — President Obama has directed the Centers for Disease Control to dispatch rapid response "SWAT teams" of Ebola experts to any local hospital with an infected patient within 24 hours. Obama's announcement followed a Cabinet-level meeting at the White House Wednesday to deal with the government's response to the Ebola outbreak. http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2014/10/15/obama-ebola-campaign-trip-postponed/17304339/ He said he hugged and kissed nurses at Emory University. |

Updated. In the case of Amber Vinson, the Dallas nurse who flew commercially as she was becoming ill with Ebola, one health official said "somebody dropped the ball." The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said that Vinson called the agency several times before flying, saying that she had a fever with a temperature of 99.5 degrees. But because her fever wasn't 100.4 degrees or higher, she didn't officially fall into the group of "high risk" and was allowed to fly. http://www.cbsnews.com/news/ebola-nurse-called-cdc-several-times/ Nurses in Texas case, also threaten to strike. |

This whole thing is beginning to play like a cheap horror movie. All last week the CDC and some in here were claiming that cases here in the USA were under control and there was no way that the ebola virus could spread. Now what are they saying? Lynn you stated on the first post that this is out of science fiction movie. Well guess what its turning into a 3 stooges film fest. Clyde has a valid point why are they not put on a no fly list? Hell the put non terrorists names on it. Every one of those people should have been in isolation. And screw that 100.4 temp. If you start having a temp rise you go to isolation pronto. And why in gods green acres would you go visit family knowing you might have been exposed???? I have told you that you aint seen nothing yet. And you aint! Ebola can live in a mans sperm for 80 days. Which if what I read is true even though you lived thru the virus, Its still alive in your sperm. Think about that! I also read it can survive on its own for days on a hard surface. The rest of the world take note on how the US is screwing up on Ebola. DONT DO THIS. [/quote] Old James |

I think that one thing they should consider is the use of one hospital in a remote location of the USA where ALL potential cases of ebola in the USA are quarantined until cleared of having the disease. How other countries handle their cases is their business. This way all of the staff will have the correct protective clothing and can be educated on it's proper use. No one that has been exposed to the virus should be allowed to fly anywhere until at least 21 days after the contact and they are sure to be uninfected. If no such hospital is currently open then a suitable location should be found. Sure it will be expensive, but how expensive will the current setup be when there are thousands of cases in the USA spread out over 48 states (Hawaii and Alaska should be safe). There should have been a flight ban into the USA. They should have talked to Canada about using Nova Scotia as the divert landing place for planes coming into North America with possible personnel with exposure or showing signs. They can isolate persons there and test for the disease. Once they clear the incubation time, they can allow them to fly either into Canada or USA. I agree with Bob, we should establish regional hospitals where they only take care of these people with personnel highly trained with dealing with these people. Leaving them in the initial hospital with staff poorly trained and telling them they have to deal with it isn't the way to go about it. Also, quarantine the facility, no one in or out if they think they have a possible exposure. If they rule out, everyone can go about their business. If they rule in, then mandatory quarantine. This self monitoring has shown it doesn't work. They can't trust people not to leave the city or get on planes. my 2 cents..... |

And you would be right Clyde... Hmmm... Just how secure is the southern border for people who aren't allowed proper entry (oh say like a flight ban) into the USA? http://thehill.com/homenews/senate/212328-reid-southern-border-is-secure Nah... They won't lie about that...now would they????? You never let a serious crisis go to waste. And what I mean by that it's an opportunity to do things you think you could not do before. |

I may be an 'Old Timer', but I do remember Mandatory Quarantines, and Beach Closing's in New York City during the early/mid 50's. Yep. Ideology and politics. Remember, everyone, while CDC Director Frieden is an MD (and a MPH), he is ALSO a political appointee. http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/president-obama-appoints-dr-thomas-frieden-cdc-director Some of the more... bizzare.. statements by Dr. Frieden only make sense (as in explainable) if he is being TOLD to say them by the politicians above him. He either toes the party line, or gets replaced. Little does he realize that he is likely to be the 'fall guy' when (not if) things blow up. |

Europe announced today they won't take extra security measures at airports. The hazard isn't too big enough. (I think it has more of an economical reason...) Hmm..I don't think Spain was paying attention to that news conference. They are too busy with their own crisis... http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/10/16/air-france-ebola_n_5996052.html |

Europe announced today they won't take extra security measures at airports. The hazard isn't too big enough. (I think it has more of an economical reason...) I really can't imagine the governments not considering the seriousness of this matter. [edit] Update from one hour ago, they will raise security measures! This morning on the radio I heard they wouldn't take any extra security measures and now this: http://nos.nl/artikel/710696-europese-maatregelen-tegen-ebola.html Sorry it's in Dutch. Europe is sending controllers from the government so people who work at the airports don't have to do it. The airports itself won't take any extra security measures... rOZZ Music Pictures |

Europe announced today they won't take extra security measures at airports. The hazard isn't too big enough. (I think it has more of an economical reason...) Yes. In my opinion the reason many Governments in the West are not taking stronger measures is the cost to the economy those measures would entail. Placing profits before the health and safety of the People. At least (in the USA, for example) what the Democrats are always accusing the Republicans of doing, the Democrats are now doing themselves. |
