I just bought a Haswell CPU i5-4570 with a HD 4600 GPU. Unfortunately it only work when there is a display connected to the device and I do not want that. I want to use my GTX 650 TI for this. However I also want to crunch AP tasks with the integrated GPU. What can I do? Is dummy plug the only way? I would prefer a software solution as I do not have time a resources to be bothered with hardware :/ ![]() |

try to extend desktop onto that gpu SETI apps news We're not gonna fight them. We're gonna transcend them. |

I've seen this suggestion but do not know what this means. When there is nothing plugged into the HDMI output on the Intel GPU there is nothing I can extend anything onto. I'm using 8.1, and I admit I'm new to this OS, but when the cable is out there is no indication that the GPU exists anywhere in the display options. It is in the device manager however. ![]() |

Thanks HAL9000, that saves me from having to explain it every time, although I don't think the use_all_gpus option is needed, you only need that if the vendors are the same. Claggy |

This worked. However it was not the effect I was going after. My setup currently is that I have two "monitors", one is the one I use connected to a GTX 650 TI and the other is a AV reciever connected to the HDMI of the intel gpu. The problem is that to have the gpu enabled I only need to have the AV receiver on and on the corresponding video input switched - which is pretty much what the tutorial is about simulating - however then I have a desktop surface that is not usable and I don't want and windows keeps throwing stuff there, its not good. What I was going after is something like this. I have an intel GPU that has AV receiver(TV) connected to it. OpenCL is available to BOINC, but no extended desktop is shown to TV. The issues with this is that either I start with TV off and no intel GPU is present. Or I start with AV receiver and there is a desktop surface I don't want and all the display options I have to remedy this turn the OpenCL off for BOINC. In any case I think I can manage it. I found out that if I start BOINC with the second GPU enabled and then turn of the AV receiver then BOINC continues to see the OpenCL device. It's a bit cumbersome but I rarely restart the computer anyway so for now it works. ![]() |

I have been doing something similar. I extend the desktop. start BOINC, and then disabled extended desktop. BOINC keeps using the GPU until you restart BOINC. The ideal solution would be the option for "duplicate display on this monitor", but I it is only available when using GPUs of the same vendor. I'm not sure. Yeah, I thought of cloning but as far as I can tell it is only available on a single GPU with multiple outputs and me google searches indicate there is no workaround... I'll leave it like that for now and wait if a solution presents itself on it's own :) ![]() |

The ideal solution would be the option for "duplicate display on this monitor", but I it is only available when using GPUs of the same vendor. I'm not sure. I use the Intel GPU for my monitor and have an unattached GTX550Ti for crunching using the "Duplicate Display" setting on this computer http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_host_detail.php?hostid=7022545 This computer http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/show_host_detail.php?hostid=7265951 appears to not have any GPU used to drive the monitor. All 4 GTX750Ti and the Intel GPU show "No display attached", so I don't know just what drives it. I have used all 5 GPUs simultaneously though to crunch. |

I was gaming a bit on that computer (not sure that this is relevant) and scrapped a bunch of intel_GPU astropulse WU. Now I don't have any AP intel_gpu units and the GPU is idling. Have I been blacklisted or something, how can I check? Or is this for a different thread? My other machines' intel_gpus have AP WU at the moment... This is the machine. ![]() |

Nothing so harsh. There's simply no AstroPulse work being generated at this time. Soli Deo Gloria |

Max tasks per day has been driven down to 23, from about 33, still enough to rebuild a cache of them, If you'd errored enough of them and driven it down to 1 a day then it would have been a bit more difficult: Application details for host 7291749 Claggy |

Well, yes, too many errors will run down your allowable tasks per day, but as soon as you start returning valid results the limit increases again. Soli Deo Gloria |

If a specific game causes work to get trashed you could use the exclusive_gpu_app settings in your cc_config. Then BOINC would automatically suspend GPU crunching for you. Not the exact same problem but I have a i3-2100 & Intel HD2000, even though there's no compatible GPU app, shouldn't the GPU show up in Boinc if I follow the tip from HAL9000? |

Intel does not support OpenCL on that GPU. See here. So I do not expect BOINC would display the iGPU at all. SETI@home classic workunits: 93,865 CPU time: 863,447 hours ![]() |
