Cheers.

Oooof.
One more day of working through this heat and humidity.
85f and just sticky as can be. Makes for a very long workweek. Wears you down after a while.

Message 1385302 - Posted: 28 Jun 2013, 5:47:29 UTC - in response to Message 1385012.

The last 3 days of June for Yermo CA are predicted to be 115F/46C, yuck!

Yuck indeed.

Some people in my position might turn off the AC and open the windows. But I think I'll keep it on until the weekend when the high is supposed to be what it is right now, low-mid 70s.

I've got the cooler on high and I have 3 windows open, it was 104°F / 40°C today too, plus it was for the desert, a hot and humid day.

Why not put the cooler on low and close the windows?

The cooler is not an air conditioner, it's a swamp cooler, this type of cooling uses water to wet pads, that a blower pulls heated air through, the air is cooled by the water in the pads and is blown into the house and so needs at least one window open, works really good when it's dry outside and not humid outside, the the cooler is on low cool when it's not too humid outside, when the humidity is higher then the cooler is on high cool for the breeze and air flow, which means more windows need to be open.

An evaporative cooler, photographed in
Rocky Ford, Colorado, used in the drier
parts of the American West to provide
economical cooling.

Ooooo-kay, now I get ya. Wouldn't do so well around here; too humid.

Chicago on Thursday hit 90F for the first and only time this month.

Only 90F? We eat 90F for breakfast, today the high was 107F, the latest prediction for Sunday is 117F/47C, BYOS(Bring Yer Own Shade)... stay frosty.

Currently 80. I'll probably turn off the AC tonight or in the morning. Supposed to be in the 70s and dry for the next several days.

The thing works well in our little
house.

Very strange weather here today.....cool and still muggy.
The wind is coming from the northeast and swirling about....not very common for this neck of the woods.

The local BBC radio was quoting views on a heat ways across the pond, with temperatures likely to hit 53C (127F). Anyone heard different?

69 out at bedtime. Turn off the air or not. Not. The house generates enough heat that it'll still be warm in here, plus there's no breeze to push air through the windows.

Can't sleep. 2am, step outside to see how it is. Not bad, but still humid (late afternoon rain). Hear the big click the compressor makes when it starts... but it doesn't start. Poke head inside; fan is running. Oh s&!t. Go in, turn it off, open a couple windows and turn on a fan to bring the cool in.

Supposed to be nice the next few days, but I better get it checked before the long holiday weekend.

This is Canada's birthday weekend. We
will be 147 years old. (July 1st)
It is supposed to be our hottest weekend to-date.
Right now it is cloudy and only 18C, but it will
go up to 33C.

I had someone I know post a picture of her thermometer that showed a temp of 127F and that was in Bullhead City, AZ.

Yermo broke a record today that stood for 41 years, it was 112F for all that time, today 113F, possibly hotter on Sunday, KABC said 119F for Barstow on Sunday.

Is that all, my thermometer was showing 115 yesterday.
