APs, them APs, where oh where are they? There haven't been any fresh APs being split for days now, and the few resends just isn't enough. I'm getting seriously low on APs now, and since AP is all I run, my computers will be idle soon, if there aren't any AP files added to the splitters very soon...

Panic, serious panic ahead.

Sten, I'm afraid it looks like you are going to run dry and this may the norm going forward. The new world order appears to be that every one is jumping on AP when they are available in order to bolster their RAC. It's a shame that the credits for v7 MB are so low in comparison otherwise this wouldn't be happening and I can't see a fix for the v7 credit issue coming any time soon.

Good luck though and hope you make it through to the next tape.

Lionel

Only the credit hounds are jumping on the AP band wagon. I for one have been doing every work unit Seti has sent my way since 99. And that includes VLARs when they were sent to GPU's.

Yes a lot of people are making a dive for that limited resource (and a lot of Radeons out their are just trashing them atm, some bad science happening there), but I remember the same thing happening when CreditNew was 1st introduced though eventually that V6 MB work caught back up and slowly the credits being granted for V7 are slowly rising (plus someone has to do them).

And that includes VLARs when they were sent to GPU's.

As to the VLARs sent to CUDA, that's best left to user's choice, plus you have to remember that not everyone runs 8 core CPU's running only 1 video card. Some of us run 2 or 3 cards with half those cores and at least running 2 monitors (if not more, depending on the user's needs).
To you they may not be a problem, but to others it's another story. And I have to ask, what do with those rigs of yours?
Both of mine get used for doing a lot of art, audio and video work plus they both run dual monitors which are needed to see all that I need to see to do that work, they just do not like VLAR's being thrown at them.

Sorry but you did get me started. ;-)

[Edit]plus I've had a few lagers now :-D[/Edit]

Cheers.

Both my I7 3770'S are crunchers untill the grandkids are here. then they get used for games and facebook crap, and surfing the web. My puny I7 920 is my dailey driver and family picture editor, movie watcher and cruncher. And it has been since I put it online. And yes it did run jerky sometimes when I was running VLARS, But i still cruncehed them. I didnt cherry pick what I wanted to run. And I still dont.

You want to run two monitors and two cards thats your choice. I choose not to. So Im at fault because your RAC took a dive? My 920 lost over 50% RAC on the switch over. BIG FLYING DEAL. Its staring to come back up like the guys who know what they are talking about said it would.
Looking at my valids im seeing quite a few that are getting 100 credits per work unit. JUST like the guys who know what they are talking about, said would happen.

I built my I7 3770's so I could use them as daily drivers. I bought my I7 920 years ago with that same idea. I have not regretted my choices to this day.

That's just the point and this has nothing to do with RAC's, everyone is in the same boat, it's about being patient with the credits as they should come back up (maybe around Xmas and I prefer to do MB work anyway), but you must keep in mind that not everyone uses their PC's like you do and what didn't effect yours certainly did effected a lot more (remember I back it as an option if you want it).

Cheers.

Oh, crap, so it is. I was so hoping they had blocked it, but it is once again "in progress". And 20jn12ad is up next - hope they don't both get stuck, that will REALLY send some folks into Panic Mode.......

So, has a tape become stuck again?
Splitter output has dropped off once again.

I had to shutdown 64 machines and aborted their caches of APs so you should have gotten some re-sends yesterday.

Grant - 20jn12ac is being "split", or rather staggering along holding a splitter captive.

Your keyboard is stuck on all Caps.
However, if your computer won't let you type anything but upper case letters, you need to figure out what's going on. ;)

Jean, first your use of capitals has drawn attention to yourself as being very rude and impatient. Don not shout, you will find a quiet word will be listened to, but a shout is the best way to be ignored around here.

Second Dr Anderson is not the person to contact about a tape that is "stuck". This tape has been known about for a couple of weeks and I dares say there is a reason for it being allowed to clog up a splitter for so long. Like most around here I too would like to know "Why"? But I will be patient. And maybe someday someone will tell us, and hopefully that tape will finally be split and vanish from our screens.

As it is some new tapes have been loaded, and there are more tasks being split for distribution.

Now, if you need to reach Dr Anderson for anything BOINC related (thus not for resolving the situation of a stuck tape), his email address can be found here.

Rob, re your comment, stop being so precious. The person is obviously feeling frustrated so understand it, be sympathetic and help. Telling them that are shouting and reacting as you have done does not engender their understanding or willingness to be less "in your face" (if I can use that phrase loosely). If you can't respond through inflaming the situation, then maybe you shouldn't be responding at all, let alone being a moderator.

cheers
