Hey Gang, I am looking to build a new cruncher in the new year. I am curious to know if a box with dual video cards, one being NVIDIA and one being ATI would work, and would both crunch at the same time. A different setup, I know, and may not make a whole heck of a lot of sense, but something I would like to do. I would also be curious about using an AMD APU. Do these crunch ATI tasks at all, or are they even worth it. This rig will have at least 16GB of ram, maybe 32, so that is a non issue. One final question, would an SSD make any sense to save power/keep heat down, or are they just not worth it. I will be using this rig for other things as well (programming, video and photo editing, pretty much everything except gaming). Any feedback would be amazing Thanks! Steve |

I will address only part of your question: the SSD. A smaller one which would contain only your OS really is a good idea. A second HD to store all your data on makes a lot of sense. I have actually been running a hybrid SSD for about 2 years on my laptop and is has served me well...not near the cost of a SSD of the same capacity. Hey Gang, Hello.
It's fine. It works. I've done it. Others have done it. Install the ATI/AMD GPU last if you can. I haven't tried it with an APU, so I don't know if that's possible. |
