OK if I accept some of what you say there is still something that is bothering me. Apart from the fact that as a pacifist I could never believe in a "Just War" perhaps a "Necessary War" but never "Just" I heard a phrase many years ago that sums up my feelings, it was from a radio play written by Ray Bradbury "creatures of the light that we all are do not bring darkness to others" Sums up how I feel. I am however confused about the gold. I assume you mean that the UK and US SOLD gold to China and Brazil, then sold it again to other countries. So when China and Brazil turn up with bits of paper saying they have X amount of gold owing, it isn't there because it has been sold more than once. If China and Brazil had lent us the gold then we have twice as much money as we sold the gold twice so we then buy it back once and return it to the lenders. I am trying to keep it simple because I don't understand high finance. |

I agree with you Chris about mixing up issues. However Intelligent Design seems to think that when the public find out what has actually happened to the gold, basically it has been sold so may times as to be worthless, the citizens of the US and UK will/should rise up against the governments that let this happen. The UK citizens will lose the fight as they have no guns, however the USA citizens will stand a better chance of winning as lots of them have guns. As I said earlier I would not like to be present in either scenario and it will probably send the "civilized world" back a few centuries. |

I agree with you Chris about mixing up issues. Yes. I don't even want to be present in the scenario. But I've got this gut feeling that I will be. It may not be about gold for some people. But, it will be about a lie told by the government. To many have become dependent on the government for their daily bread. In the end it will be about gold but they wont see that, just the missing bread. This was the same way Rome fell. Free Bread for all, was the cry. Then only Free Bread for the citizen. Then there was no bread at all. I can't say I know what the trigger will be. I'm kinda sure about the cause. |

I can't say I know what the trigger will be. I'm kinda sure about the cause. A pretty good bet is Water. Plenty of disputes around the world, Middle East, Indian sub continent, central Asia, along the river Nile. But you don't need to look that far, there are plenty of cases in the good old USA. Try along the Colorado River, North and South Carolina Florida, Alabama, Georgia Could Water Strife Lead to ‘Mass Killings’ in the Future? There, you can now go away and worry about something else, don't say I never give you a good subject ;-) |

I can't say I know what the trigger will be. I'm kinda sure about the cause. It was slim pickins in the corn field this year too. And it don't look like the Sun is gonna settle down to the end of next year. Could be in for slim pickins next year in the corn field too. No free bread... Debt repaid? |

How did a post about a shooting in New York end up where it is currently? Gun control I can *kinda* see, since everyone was freaking out over why another shooting took place and some possible remedies for the problem...but US debt and selling our children? For crying out loud, people...stay on the topic of a thread or help yourselves to starting a new one. Who moderates these forums, anyway? -1 to whomever that is. |

You usually need to red X something you find off topic, particularly if it is your thread.) |

Because it seems a large number of Anericans will defend their right to carry guns so that they can bring the Government to justice if needed. I apologise if I have contribute to your thread going off topic. But I was trying to understand why gun control is such a important topic for Americans. I would be quite happy for my posts to be moved or deleted. I do agree however that a red x would be better. |

For crying out loud, people...stay on the topic of a thread or help yourselves to starting a new one. In all threads, there is drift. It is up to the Original Poster (OP) to either let it go on or redx the post that drifts. As all OP's have different standards of drift we leave that up to you. Not one mod has the time to read every thread and hide the off topic posts. [/quote] Old James |

It's not the guns, folks. It's the general demise of polite society. Kids have not been raised correctly since it was deemed politically incorrect to take a belt to their backside to teach them right from wrong. It is now coming to roost. It's the kids, not the guns. To further that........ When was the last time you had a kid hold the door for you at the video store? Not in years for me, but I do it all the time. Say 'Thank you', or 'Please', or 'Excuse me'........ I, myself seem to have lost a bit, with my abuse of the King's English from time to time. There was a scene in a movie that I think was wonderful. I cannot find it right now, but it was one of his dance movies. I think, Banderas. And he was waiting in the school office, and opened the door for everybody. And then tried to explain his politeness to he miscreant sitting next to him. Wonderful scene......I shall try to find it. "Freedom is just Chaos, with better lighting." Alan Dean Foster |
