I was told it was a herbal remedy some time ago by one of my American friends, well here's the proof, it would seem, found in the founders sister-in-laws book of herbal remedies written in 1853.

Daily Telegraph - Food and Drink news.

LOL! A glorious find!!!

And along those lines (so to speak) cocaine must be good for you too. After all, it is an all natural product made from leaves and twigs.

Truth is stranger than fiction.

"A spokesman for the company said: "We know our founder was from Wales - we would love to see the book and the recipe."

That would be a nice payday for the family if Jack Daniels go for it. Good luck to them.

a tea brewed from the leaves of the coca plant is a good herbal remedy against altitude sickness.

and the mode of action is quite different if you have an alkaline lysis first - chewing with potash.

Remember at one point in time almost all of the sodas we know today were medicinal tonics. Ginger ale was a real ginger and naturally carbonated spring water healing tonic. Dr. Pepper was a 28 different healing herbs put together. Coca Cola – Coca (the same plant cocaine is made from) is tonic herb that has 19 alkaloids in it. Cola is an African medicinal plant related to Cocao (Chocolate).

Everything is made from chemicals - even plants and rocks.

Yes, but will the cops believe you when you say that?

And don't forget, root beer was originally fermented yucca root - a known carcinogen today.

The "native herbal remedy" tactic has been tried before -- unsuccessfully. One case was in the courts and newspapers off and on for about a decade. BAC of about .5%. Killed a whole family by driving on the wrong side of the interstate.

I always thought it was sassafras root. Did some research and confirmed that. Fermented Yucca root is used to make a drink called Chicha de Yuca which is very similar to Pulque an Aztec hallucinogen.

Hey, what do I know? I was drunk on fermented dandelions when somebody tried to explain all that to me.

Well, you know the old saying.

I do have a nip now and again...purely for medicinal purposes.
