Cronyism...Great Britain on the slippery slope down-hill to oblivion.
So these chaps supplied sponsorship to these Olympics. As businessmen then
they would have assessed the likelihood of financial gains to be made
via this sponsorship money will be paying them back many times over above
their initial investment. The whole shebang stinks of nepotism to me I just
hope then that the UK and world Olympics committees are proud of it all.

Too bad they can't be happy with their VIP air conditioned,
catered guest areas/boxes and their functional formal dinners.
Now they have to take happiness from kids. If anything, it is
teaching others (especially like the kid they displaced) how to
be greedy butterballs. (can't swear lol)

Huh? Whoever is advising the public had better return from the planet "Muppetdom"

First, trains & tubes & now roads? Just how is the city going to cope? Earlier, they had stated that the extra long weekend for the jubilee is going to cost the economy, just how will a month with no access save the economy?

Please do not use the roads

Methinks we have too many armchair critics and barstool preachers who protest too much.

I think you'd better think a lot more before posting comments like that! I have been a Transport worker for over 30 years & regardless of how the Daily Mail words their headlines, this report is correct.

But then again, it's expected from someone who has declared that they were a civil servant!

Pen pushers just do not know what "real Work is"

London 2012 Gridlock Games

"The Mall, incredibly, will be off limits to everyone – including pedestrians and cyclists – for almost four months, starting this month and not reopening until the last day of September. It seems a high price to pay for beach volleyball".

3 months to clean up all that sand? Hmmn, the council workers on a "work-to-rule" then.....

...more than likely the Bus drivers greed might rub off on them...."Give us £1k & we'll clean it up in a week......

The Daily Mail is fast becoming anti-establishment, and undermining society.

It has some form in that regard.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that ...

Looking forward to seeing the beach volleyball - the met forecast is for rain throughout this month with the occasional glimse of sunshne early next month.

How about an olympic sand castle building competition......

Better still, how about a tsunami that washes the whole Olympics shebang
away. The event soon to be forgotten one month after it has ended and all at
a cost of £24 billion. Holding the Olympics is a luxury these days, a luxury
no country can really afford to waste money on. So all we have gained from this
affair is a few extra affordable houses, (that were once termed council houses)
to house the jobless in who will need their rents paying for them too. So not
only have the Londoners paid for the Olympics, they've also paid to have
these homes built plus now having to pay the occupants rents too. All this too
so that Olympic dignities can hoyty-toyty in their limousines putting their
noses up to the ordinary motorist as they pass them along the road in their
priority lanes. A useless bunch of amoebic layabouts creating a showcase stage
to prance about on because their self effacing hedonism makes them believe
they are so important. Along with them we get governments pandering to
it all because they wont to share this stage too because of the self belief
that because the Olympics is successful seeing me on this stage must
mean to all that I'm successful as well. The whole operation geared to giving
people backhanders, fronthanders, uphanders and downhanders and lets not
forgetn the drug taking athlets either. Whats their reason behind the drug
taking? because they wont to win a coverted gold, not really. It's what comes
with winning a gold....product endorsements guarranted to make each gold
medal winner a £1 million at least. They dont care about the prestige in
gaining a gold they care only about the money they can make from it. They
don't care about you or your country but only about them selves. The Olympics
is wrotten to the core run only for the benefit of those in privaleged circles
to champagne it, wine and dine it for the day, free of charge of course and quite
honestly time this farce was bought to an end.

U.R.A Conman won the 1000 meters on Johnson & Johnson Anabolic steroids.
You too can run the 1000 meters in under 5 seconds when you use....
....Johnson & Johnson Anabolic steroids.....Fully endorsed by the World Olympics Committee.
Well, they must be endorsing it under the table or why then are they not life
banning athletes who get caught using them??????????

Can't locate anything similar for the Peking olympics of 2008, except that it is quoted to have cost $40 billion.

In the 4 years since they ended, just wondering if those stadiums & other facilities are in use today.

Personally, I feel that the Olympics have gone well past their "sell by" date & time to end them as they no longer serve any useful purpose.

As already stated by others that they are a once in a lifetime event & worth supporting, I find this extremely selfish....

...for one's pleasure now, our children have to pay for that pleasure & when the time comes for their pleasure, they won't be able to afford to either attend as a spectator or as an athlete.

The times we are now living in, the original concept of these games no longer exist.

You are entitled to your view of course but I would suggest that the majority of the world disagrees with you. Otherwise they would have been scrapped many years ago. Enjoy being in your minority.

For now! Riddle me this - Why was there a 1500 year gap between the original Olympics & the current one?
