Seems to have gone all quiet in Scotland regarding independence... The Kite Fliers -------------------- Kite fliers: An imaginary club of solo members, those who don't yet belong to a formal team so "fly their own kites" - as the saying goes. |

Independent Scotland open to Cyprus-style bank risks, says Britain At 12-1/2 times the size of Scotland's economic output, Scotland's banking sector would be even more out of proportion to the economy than that of Cyprus, which ground to a standstill earlier this year as the cost of recapitalizing its banks, which had assets worth nine times its GDP, spiralled. |

Looks like another idea may backfire. It was been proposed some time ago that for the referendum the voting age should be reduced by Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon SNP. But now it seems this age group would reject independence. Scottish independence: Study suggests most 16/17 year olds would vote 'no' |

Of course they would say no! They don't have to pay tuition fees whereas should they go independent, the Scottish government will soon have to introduce fees, which they certainly won't like! |

Of course, if the Scots, are conned into independence (which would just happen to make, Mr Salmonella, all 'powerful'), hundreds of workers in the area around Devonport, Plymouth, will be highly delighted. Thats more than could be said for the hundreds of workers around the Faslane area! Mr Salmonella is quite clearly, to paraphrase the late David Penhaligon MP (whom I, as many did, much admired) hoping that 'turkeys will vote for Christmas'. Don't take life too seriously, as you'll never come out of it alive! |

Yep! Why do you think the "Turkeys" are trying their utmost to wipe Xmas out? It's so they can continue to vote themselves £10k rises without them being "cooked"! |

Had an interesting conversation yesterday afternoon with a colleague of mine based/living in Scotland down on a visit to us in London. Regarding Scottish independence this colleague's remark was, "No one's interested in gaining independence in Scotland and to this end no one can actually stand Alex Salmon" ...Bye-bye Alex in 2014 then.... Well to be fair Nick, that was your colleagues opinion. Was there an opinion poll that he read to come to that conclusion, was it down to all his family and friends thinking that etc. That is a very broad brush statement to make on behalf of the Scottish people without some evidence behind it. But if he is in fact correct that the majority share that view, which is what we have thought for a long time anyway, that is an interesting comment. I think I would have challenged him further :-) I felt no need to challenge "Her" any further as she left me in no doubt about the general feelings of the Scottish over this issue. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-23096931 The Scottish government to introduce a 5 pence levy on plastic shopping bags. Levy money expected to be around £5 million to be given to "Good causes"... Meaning a new government body set up called the "Plastic Bag Fund". Employing about 10 persons of which two will be high paying salary jobs for mates of ministers....if not ex-ministers themselves. Leaving after costs about £2 million to give away. Then the Plastic Bag Fund will then start faffing about trying to decide who qualifies as a good cause to receive some money. This sort of goings-on was what the Scottish government went out of their way to avoid so not to alienate the Scottish voter whilst, "Independence for Scotland" was on the agender. Me thinks that now with this plastic shopping bag charge being introduced may give an indication that the SNP has started to give up on any hopes of winning this referendum in 2014? Welfare reforms potentially costly "We've had a tough few years, but what this report really nails is the fact that, under independence, there would be huge cost pressures on an independent Scotland, particularly as our population is aging, and particularly because of the challenges we have in raising the money to pay for that increasing bill." So you won't be leaving then? |

Northern Ireland and Wales have already done it. The problem is, are the alternatives any greener? |

Well there we have it, it's not going to happen. Why, you ask am I so sure, well Nate Silver has read the runes and said so, that's why. Scottish independence campaign has almost no chance, says Nate Silver Political polling guru says data on referendum is 'pretty definitive' unless there is a major crisis in England In an interview with The Scotsman, Silver, who correctly predicted the results of all 50 states in 2012, said the Scottish data was "pretty definitive". "There's virtually no chance that the 'yes' side will win," he said. "If you look at the polls, it's pretty definitive really where the no side is at 60-55% and the yes side is about 40 or so." |

Another of Alex Salmond's inconsistencies exposed. He wanted independent Scotland to be nuclear free, by closing submarine base on the Clyde, and a member of NATO. Nato chiefs deal blow to SNP's anti-nuclear strategy Senior Nato officials have warned Alex Salmond's government that an independent Scotland would be barred from joining Nato if there were any disputes over the basing of nuclear weapons on the Clyde. |
