Message 1175761 - Posted: 5 Dec 2011, 2:05:47 UTC

I have changed out GPUs, and have gone from nvidia to ATI. S@H does not recognize the new GPU, still thinks I have the nvidia and will not doqnload any cuda work units.

How do I get S@H to recognize the new GPU?

For the folks that can help you, you may need to 'unhide' your computer in your preferences so they can take a peek.

IF you are running the default S@H app, there is no app for ATI cards. To use ATI cards for S@H, you need to download and install the current Lunatics installer. You'll also need to know how to edit the app_info file.

look at your account page under sei@home settings find "Should SETI@home show your computers on its web site?" check the box

Without seeing your computer several things could be happening here.

1. You have a 6XXX series ATI GPU and your BOINC version is 6.10.XX or older which doesnt recognize the newer ati cards.

2. You don't have the Lunatics optimized apps installed for the GPU which will prevent seti@home from sending you work for the ATI GPU.

3. Since you are running a fresh install for an ATI GPU you'll want to make sure you run the 11.2 drivers. If those fail try the ll.4 or 11.9 The 11.2 give the best performance. however they will also crash your system if you have a 6XXX GPU and watch streaming videos.

I am not seeing where to do that.

On your SETI@home preferences page. The control you want is

Should SETI@home show your computers on its web site?

Set it to 'yes'.

You have driver Version 11.8.

Download GPUz and check if OpenCL is checked.

I would suggest to upgrade to 11.9. drivers.

Download and install the Lunatics installer from here.

http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=66241

So you can also run the optimized apps for your CPU.

Most often we just refer to the Cat version, but there are 3 different versions when talking about the driver(s). The Catalyst version, the version you see when you look at the driver in device manager, & the version BOINC reports.
In your case you are running Cat 11.8, 8.881.0.0000, 1.4.1523.
Since this is so much fun to sort I keep a page with version numbers on it ATI Driver Cheat Sheet. I need to update it for 11.10 and 11.11, but haven't had the chance to do that just yet.

Okay, gonna stop trying to get this board to work; it is a pig. I am a photographer, and I have a lot of graphics intensive software... Routines that took 1 to 2 minutes to run now take up to ten minutes to finish. I can't believe how slow it is.

Thanks for all the help and advice, but I am putting the old board back into the desktop.

WHEN REPLACING ATI DRIVERS remember to uninstall then use a program called Driver Sweep to remove all the remaining ATI drivers that the uninstaller left behind. restart your PC then install the new drivers.

Which NVIDIA card were you using? You might have inadvertently downgraded yourself.

A HD6570 is comparable to a GF9600. A HD6770 or HD6850 would be more of an upgrade.

Since this is so much fun to sort I keep a page with version numbers on it ATI Driver Cheat Sheet. I need to update it for 11.10 and 11.11, but haven't had the chance to do that just yet.

Hey, nice work on that data! I may refer to that later myself.

Oliver Bock (OpenCL developer for both BOINC and Einstein@home) was needing exactly that information earlier today, and didn't know where to get it.

I was able to send him a link. Thanks.

I have a link to that and some other things in my profile. When I am not feeling to lazy I do things to save time/help me keep track of stuff. Then I tend to share that information with everyone if I'm not feeling to lazy not to. :)
