The cricket graph again shows that the upload server is down. The status page shows it up. I agree that the SETI staff should let a volunteer write the system status to keep the volunteer crunchers informed. David Moritz |

The cricket graph again shows that the upload server is down. The status page shows it up. The SETI staff is lucky that some volunteer crunchers keep reminding other volunteer crunchers that there's a "use-by date" on the server status page. AND PLEASE STOP POSTING ON A MONTH-OLD NEWS THREAD!! Sorry for shouting, but it starts getting really annoying that the posts have nothing to do with the topic of the thread. Gruß, Gundolf |

AND PLEASE STOP POSTING ON A MONTH-OLD NEWS THREAD!! Well, Gundolf, it looks like the posters simply check for the latest time noted for a comment on a likely thread. Ahh..., as I do. However, I tend to restrain myself from commenting and just read about the problems others are having. (And usually only when I am suffering problems on my end.) This lets me know that SETI has had some glitches and I'm not alone with being unable to upload, D/L, and so forth. Misery does love company, after all. LOL! I do agree with you that it's better to choose the appropriate board for the subject if one wishes to actually make a comment. However, if SETI has a long enough downtime, I hope the crunchers will contribute to the other, worthwhile, distributed computing projects like Einstein, Climate, or whatever science project piques their interest. It's my personal feeling that if more cycles were spread out with other projects, SETI wouldn't be as overloaded. And if one only desires to participate in a single project I recommend not with LHC. ;-P |

The cricket graph again shows that the upload server is down. The status page shows it up. Maybe if we ask nicely (or start using the red-x), the MODs will police the NEWS and TECH NEWS forums a little more strictly, and move some of the off-topic posts to the appropriate threads in Number Crunching (8{) Donald Infernal Optimist / Submariner, retired |

Actually an 8 day old news thread started on 14 June Oops ![]() I had just been reading "storage service is back up", which is almost a month old. Nevertheless, I think my complaint adequate for both threads. Gruß, Gundolf |

Sticking to technical news to at least some degree, I notice over the past 2 days the cricket is giving an unusual pattern showing a moment of 'downtime' after regular periods, say every 2 hours. What's causing this? |

The cricket graph again shows that the upload server is down. The status page shows it up. I think the staff are reading these posts and do their own cleanup. You are welcome to use the red x thou. Pluto will always be a planet to me. ![]() Seti Ambassador Not to late to order an Anni Shirt |

Sticking to technical news to at least some degree, I notice over the past 2 days the cricket is giving an unusual pattern showing a moment of 'downtime' after regular periods, say every 2 hours. What's causing this? For whatever reasons, the splitters seem to be unable to work fast enough to maintain a 'ready to send' cache. So at times, there is little work going out. Thus, the 'feathering' seen on the Cricket graph. "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once." ![]() |

Yes but look at the in progress graph on the server graphs page, the last 96 Hrs graph shows a steady increase with no fluctuations, the slope of the graph seems to be as steep as when the pipe has been maxed. Is the pipe able to handle this load easier than being maxed with all the network problems. If everyone is getting some work does it matter if us faster users take a little bit longer to fill our caches to our prefured levels? Kevin ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I won't complain. At least when some work is assigned, the downloads seem to be going through straight off. "Time is simply the mechanism that keeps everything from happening all at once." ![]() |

What's causing this? I think it's more of a sign of some other issue. The master DB queries per second graph shows there's been a lot of activity there since the last outage. In the past if the number of Queries per second is over around 600, the splitters get bogged down. And that has pretty much been the case since the last outage- it's been averaging over 800. ... With the replica BOINC database off, all queries have to be handled by the master. Carolyn can handle a few thousand per second, but perhaps there's enough extra delay on each query to affect other processes. Joe |
