I´m just glad i did wait.

Was close to order the card already.
But anyways i can sent him the aditional money as well to get him the new PSU.
As i realized i can get the card cheaper.

So keep it going and thanks again.

I prefer the XFX model but get what you can. He'll be so pleased

XFX doesn´t have a good name here in europe.
On the other hand Raistmer mentioned Sapphire.

I really hope he will like it.

I'm not sure I would be terribly happy for development work - or even more crucially, pre-release testing - to be done on hacked hardware. Presumably there was a reason why those chips were binned for 6950 use, instead of 6970. The flaw, or the dip below 6970 specification, might be trivial, and not even show up under gaming conditions: but I'd hate to see the new card go the way of the old one, without even a warranty to collect up the pieces.

.. that´s even better then and makes it cheaper (~ € 259,-); i never know, using only nvidia.

Vicente,
I think this post over in the Lunatic's forum is why they decided on the 6950...
Thanks for so wonderful intentions Smiley
In my case I think HD6950 would be more than enough. It shares same architecture with HD6970, but has lesser (AFAIK) power requirements.
I not sure that top GPU would be happy with my current PSU and have warm enough (sometimes too warm actually Wink ) room to make it even more warm Grin

Now that we are also trying to get him enough extra for a new PSU it really doesn't matter much anymore. Let's just hope we can get enough for a really good PSU for him after all he has done for us.

many thx 4 this hint .. & .. completely agree .. unfortunately, i have no access to lunatics forum, cause i couldn´t register (may be, i did some thing wrong).
psu´s are - in general - mainly underestimated anyway .. so 4 me, it is an important topic to fit the card in his rig (as questioned) .. and of course to have it stable with power. if it comes to my intention, i just want to see him back up running, and happy! as for me it´s all based on my intuition .. there is no personal return expected; i don´t even use ati-cards.

Buenos Dias Vicente. You may have missed it but Raistmer
previously posted that he is back up and running with a backup
4870. I think you guys chipping in get him a new 69XX video card
and power supply is wonderful. I wish I could help but Real Life
has intruded, maybe next month.

Mike, you did nothing wrong. He does have the older card but he is trying to get the app right for the newer cards. That is the one he burned up. Without it he is pretty much stuck. Believe me, if you had done something wrong both Steve and I would have told you instead of chipping in.

yes .. additionally it may be kinda "helpful", if raistmer could insert a comment (in his own thread btw), not leaving all "alone" talking about him & his (possible) concerns .. slowly sounds strange after a little while? for me!
