IMHO Raistmer should get equipped/sponsored by AMD/ATI with a variety of different hardware.

With his untiring efforts developing GPU apps he helped AMD/ATI to get a foot in the GPGPU market.

Anyone here with good connections to someone from AMD (marketing) ?

He should be sponsored. Because of his work AMD sold more cards and will sell more because of failures in the future due 24/7 usage.

@raistmer was the LED D1601 on the card on? this would indicate a death by overheating

I PMed Mike too about kicking in a few bucks. Has anyone heard back from him yet? I'd like to know if he wants us to go with paypal or some other means. I offered to kick in $20 to bribe Raistmer to stop working on ATI as it's making my little GTS-450 look bad! I hope he knows I am joking. :-) Raistmer has done so much for all of us that it is good to be able to pay a little back even if it does make my 450 look bad! :-)

What is the warranty on ATI cards?
My EVGA/Nvidia cards all carry a lifetime warranty if you register them when purchased.

With regards to Raistmer's unfortunate experience, my guess is that the monitor card is one of the parts in the PC which may be especially exposed or prone to its surroundings.

First, the monitor card is connected to the PC with a cable typically on the rear of the PC. This cable is very stiff and little flexible in nature (I do myself have an ACER AL1911 monitor which I think is 19 inch). My monitor card has two connectors by the way.

If something is supposed to break on a PC, definitely it is this card.

Only option when it breaks is to replace it with a new one.

I am in favor of Nvidia and Gainward (still). Only thing is that those AMD processors apparently beats me on the speed all the time. This I am able to see when comparing processing times between two returned tasks.

Raistmer has helped me with issues I've had with my 69xx series card, so I'm more than happy to chip in.

I agree with the poster above, he definitely deserves sponsorship by AMD/ATI. I mean if they sent him a couple of GPUs, it's a tax write-off for them and his development of the ATI apps will sell thousands, perhaps even MILLIONS of ATI/AMD GPUs over the years. AMD says they want to take GPGPU more seriously...well, here's their chance to step up and prove it. We've got a guy here who takes time out of his own schedule to do something that AMD should be doing (after all, didn't NVidia help with several distributed computing apps?).

ATI/AMD GPUs are now a viable seti cruncher and that's primarily due to efforts led by Raistmer and a few others. I would love to see the 69xx series' true potential drawn out, but the only way that's gonna happen is if he has some 69xx hardware to develop on. AMD made some pretty hefty changes in their GPUs from the 5xxx series to the 6xxx series, which they claim will also increase performance when it comes to GPGPU applications. AMD claims more TFlops performance across the board, I'd love to see it. ;)

I thank all who participate in discussion, will try to answer on questions:

1) about LED on/off - when I decompose GPU, cleaned it and installed back to slot there was shortcircuit again and again each time I turned power switch (on PSU) ON. GPU LEDs flash shortly. GPU fan keeps silent (usually it strats to spin on 100% speed for 1-2 second when powered ON by PSU).
Looks like this GPU is absolutely dead now (but still don't know where shortcircuits were, will decompose it again).

2) About dead MB/PCIe slot and about donation of new GPU - thanks for such generous offer, I appreciate it a lot. But when I bought this GPU I actually bought 2 of them (prev owner used they in CrossFire mode so sold both to me with good discount cause there were already used). So right now I installed secondary one and "back to business" :) This means of course that my another experimental host with dual NV/ATi setup now will work w/o ATi at all (it had its own troubles anyway).
That is, situation not critical but could be better :) And also it means motherboard and PCIe slot are completely operational.

3) About donations from AMD - LoL, LoL and LoL again. Even never thought about any hardware help from that side... would be good if there will be more "software" help at least...

.. you won´t find any "short-circuits" on the board itself (where should they come from at a sudden in the running machine?) .. as mentioned , chips are dying inside out .. so the "shorts" are buried inside; happy, that you have things going & kind rgds.

Yes, troubles indeed, and I thank you for your help with that. The 11.2 drivers seem to help a bit in this regard, but I'm glad to know this hardware configuration was being tested. (:

Don't have much $$$, but I'll be happy to contribute what little I can. If I may make a suggestion, instead of a single top of the line card, one each 5000 and 6000 series cards would help in testing apps for the different platforms.

Also agrree with a previous poster, check what cards will fit. I am currently crunching on a GTS450 since I had to retutn the HD5830 I ordered because it wouldn't fit in my case with those power connectors in the back.

It's Known that the 5000's series works almost flawlessly.
The 6xxx's series is the ones with the problems.
