I could not find a direct link so I selected "reset project" from the Projects Tab.

This wiped out all of my Que'd Wu's.

I then selected "update" from the same tab and it requested Wu's and downloaded Wu's with the 4.07 version number.

This means that you will lose any Wu's in progress, but it gets all of you work units up to date.

This worked on 2 of my computers but the other 2 machines received a no work available as a BOINC message reply.

Sa la vie, 2 machines have work and two do not:(

That is how it goes.....

SETI@home - 2004-11-05 23:05:24 - Scheduler RPC to http://setiboinc.ssl.berkeley.edu/sah_cgi/cgi succeeded

no hint on updating?

DO NOT DO AS THIS PERSON DID. DO NOT RESET. BOINC WILL GET SETI 4.07 WHEN IT NEEDS IT. AND IT WON'T NEED IT UNTIL YOU USE UP WHAT IS IN YOUR QUEUE.

RESETTING IS ONLY FOR WHEN THINGS GO WRONG!!!

Everything is now OK. :)

All machines have now connected and received all of their 4.07 WU's.

All machines are now crunching again!

Thanks,

Third try and still getting the cascade. d/l the wu's fine. The d/l of the pdb finishes with a bad file error. The work units are compared to the bad file and found ... you guessed it... bad and are then chucked. and the whole thing starts over.

Can't d/l the file directly because the d/l page still has 4.13 (ICK!) on it.

Any reliable sources for the new .pdb?

[Never mind. Just completed the .pdb d/l. I'll keep the original text up in case anyone else has the same question.]

If you had waited, BOINC would have managed the upgrade and nothing would have been lost....

I can happily report that my WU processing times changed from 4 hours, 20 minutes with 4.05 down to 2 hours, 15 minutes with 4.07. It’s nice to have the speed back again. Thanks for fixing this, developers!

With SC 4.05 it took 6 to 6.5 hours to run 2 wus, but now
with SC 4.07 the time is down to 3hours 22mins for 2wus, which
is what it took before on SC 4.03 on my P4 2.8mhz w/HP running
windows XP sp2.

Improved processing times with 4.07 from the previous version 4.05:

Intel P4 3.06 GHz with HT, 1GB RAM, Windows XP Pro w/SP2.
With S@H 4.05 required 6 hrs & 30 minutes to 6 hrs & 45 minutes to run 2 WU,
With S@H 4.07 the time was reduced to 4 hrs & 9 minutes for 2 WU.

Intel P4 2.5 GHz, 1GB RAM, Windows XP Pro w/SP2.
With S@H 4.05 required 5 hrs & 15 minutes to 5 hrs & 30 minutes for 1 WU,
With S@H 4.07 the time was reduced to 4 hrs 15 minutes for 1 WU.

From an in-process WU on a slower/older machine:
Intel P3 645 MHz, 256MB RAM, Windows XP Pro w/SP2.
With S@H 4.05 required 16 hrs & 35 minutes to 19 hrs & 45 minutes to run 1 WU,
With S@H 4.07 the time was reduced to a projected 9 hrs & 25 minutes for 1 WU.

Most amazing from an in-process WU on an older machine:
Intel P2 398 MHz, 256MB RAM, Windows XP Pro w/SP2.
With S@H 4.05 required 24 hrs & 24 minutes to 25 hrs & 28 minutes to run 1 WU,
With S@H 4.07 the time was reduced to a projected 11 hrs & 25 minutes for 1 WU.

While there are a minimum of completed 4.07 WUs, the reduction in time is welcomed and appreciated. This is the motivation for flushing my Ques' and downloading 4.07 WUs.

Has anyone else seen similiar results?

Not noticed a speed up here.It is about the same speed.Do I have to finish old wu's before 4.07 kicks in as earlier on when I connected it dowloaded more wu's and 4.07.But I have about 8 wu's still to crunch from before 4.07.Do I have to do them before 4.07 starts?

The WU's in your Que are labeled with the version number that they will be crunched with.

Until those older 4.05 units have been processed or flushed, the WUs that are designated with 4.07 will not run.

The WU's arrive with their version processing "preferences."

It would have been a little more helpful if they would have specified what OS this was for. I stopped my Mac from processing, tossed the client and reset boinc only to have it download 4.0.2 again. I looked in the message boards and in one of the unix threads someone stated that it was only a new windows client.

Which begs the question: Why would you reset the project anyway? WUs are application-version-specific, which means that somebody is going to have to process those with 4.02. By resetting the project, those WUs won't be redistributed until after they hit the deadline, which is potentially still two weeks away.

Don't reset the project unless BOINC is having trouble. BOINC will know when it needs to update an application all by itself.

Which has been stated many times in this thread above, but no-one reads it or selfishly chooses to ignore it because they are just chasing results.

does anyone know, what has been changed in order to decrease the processing time? Beside that, faster crunching is always greatly appreciated. thanks for that!
