I have an old Athlon 1700+ sitting around. It once ran seti@home but now requires more ram to do so. It can support 2GB, but i just decided to turn it into my moms email and internet computer instead. However, i was browsing around on tigerdirect today and i found this... http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=5771288&CatId=319 seems like a good little card. though it surprised me there was a geforce 9500 GT in PCI form, and not AGP. If i were to drop this in along with some more ram for that box, would it be worth it? or would i be a better idea to just put that money towards a new box? |

I am not certain if this answers your question, but my 9600 (512mb RAM, no longer useful for gaming) does a lot more work than the 2 core AMD it is sitting in. Without it crunching for SETI, it would most likely be turned off by now. Janice |

I got an ati 4650 agp 1GB late last year though it needs an agp 8x slot on the motherboard to run it and being an ati you have to run the optimized applications from Lunatics. It seems to be the last of the line for agp cards, Here is one place that still lists them ati 4650 1GB I got mine from an Ebay shop. |

Just to add my two cents worth, My little 9500GT is keeping pace with my E5400 dual. It runs one WU in half the time it takes the E5400 so it's like adding another two cores. Mine is a PCI-E but your straight PCI should be pretty close. PROUD MEMBER OF Team Starfire World BOINC |

a PCI card wouldnt have the bandwidth capability that an AGP or PCIe would have but it still should capable of running Seti In a rich man's house there is no place to spit but his face. Diogenes Of Sinope |

I still run a dual P3@933 and placed 2x9500GTs in the empty slots. As it uses RAID-2 (a PCI card), I had to sacrifice the sound but this is OK as the CD is kaput. I run the dual 9500GTs on PrimeGrid and am turning in more than 40Ks worth of work. I use my 2 Intel quads on PrimeGrid CPU work, with the NV cards producing more than these combined. The main use of the P3 is to monitor my 15 year old Email addy. It's good to be back amongst friends and colleagues |
