What software? Boinc? Did it download tasks? Stock, or optimised apps?

At a rough guess, I would not allow it to run, then download coretemp or speedfan to monitor the temps, then allow it to fire up boinc. I would guess that it's immediately getting too hot.

Is it a shop bought, or a home build? What else is running? Think your GFX driver is a bit old to run cuda tasks if you are trying that.

More Info, info, info...

Really my car is making a funny noise I just put air in the tires. Can you help me?

We need more info! Particularly what the error code was on the BSOD is a start. Do you have a minidump? Does it lock up any other time etc.

Jeff............

First thing you must learn is that Boinc/Seti places hard demands on the cpu and memory when it is running.

First place to look is at the cpu temperature. If your computer is only failing when you run Boinc/SEti then temperature is the first thing to look at. Google "speedfan", get it and check the cpu temperature. Get a can of compressed air at your local computer store and blow the dust and dirt out of the cpu heatsink and any other fans.

You computer needs to be in top shape to successfully run Boinc/Seti.

To help us help you it would be very helpful to supply us with the full error code displayed on the blue screen.

Cheers.

What by trying to get more information so we can help him instead of sending him through useless round robins that end him up in the same place?

What software did you install and have you tried uninstalling it? It could be as simple as the software has issues. If your system was stable before that software maybe you could do a rollback to before you installed it. If you are a more advanced user you could uninstall the software and then clean out the registry of the softwares remains.

p.s. I hate it when software leaves stuff behind, programmers out there please make a clean uninstall. :)

Jeff, I see that computer is also erroring out a lot on Seti. Was it running ok before you downloaded what ever you downloaded? Uninsatll the program and see what happens. You may have heat issues with CPU or GPU. Or memory issues. Or you just got a bum program. But we do need more info.

My apologies to the OP. I didn't check that he had only joined 4 days ago.

BUT... People have to realise that they cannot just post 'Hey! I have a problem', and expect help from us. I always try to provide as much information as possible, so that anybody who might know what is happening.

I have received lots of help from these boards, and I like to help others if I can, but without information, we don't stand a chance.

Giz.

Were you helping? Just showing how inadequate information makes it hard to help. Sorry you took it that way.

Always the case that a user inexperienced with comps will also be inexperienced in providing sufficient info for diagnosis. Calm support is all that's required :).

If you can maybe even take a photo of the blue screen & paste it here that could help.

First of all turn off BOINC + see if ti still locks up.
