Time to move Steve. When I worked for a German company in Bavaria they sold bottled beer in the company store (in the basement of the main office building) and the cafeteria had 3 kinds of draft beer at lunch. You had to put each one in the right glass, otherwise you would get a stern lecture from the cash register lady.

Its been a long long day; though productive. Writing reports at 5am, delivered no less than 3 of the beastly things by 4pm.

First beer around 4:30pm - the joy of being your own boss (er, sort of). More paper-pushing til nearly 9pm. <sigh>

Now just gone 11 pm and suddenly rum-with-apple juice-splash of bitters are the flavour of the moment. AND the really really rummy left-over 'rum stew' (mostly rum soup) is being re-heated as 'meal-of-the-day'. Mmmmmmmmm.

Don't ask me anything sensible; I am enjoying the moment.

And I thank Steve for a forum that allows typing things like bn thr, d*ne tha tt. Vwery imprortant.

Bill is right, you just got to move. Went to home to Germany with a BF that works for an industrial scale company in 1998. Got a tour of a factory. Guess what, no matter what position that person held, there was a beer on the workbench.
Germany never had a prohibishen(?). Thus we appreciate, what Humans have known for thousands of years, Beer is great and if consumed in messured sips will make you smarter.

Uli, I like you more and more every day! The irony of it is that even if I could, I wouldn't drink at work. My job is too complicated, and I need everything I have to complete it successfully. It is fun thinking about it, but as silly as it seems, I really like my job. What I am learning for SETI is just what I need to learn for my job. I must admit though that I really love German beer. It is so smooth, and really good. One of my favorites is EKU 28. Ummmmmmm!

I remember a long time ago I used to have a beer with lunch on a work day.
I would come back relaxed and ready to just do the mundane stuff.. and of course someone would always call or stop by that was high strung type A..
and invariably I ended the afternoon in a bad mood.

So I stopped.

While I am not opposed to a good beverage of choice at times.. I hate to admit it.. but Coffee is my religious beverage.

The others.. are for relaxing with.

When I worked for ESI one of the accounts that I serviced was a golf course. We maintained their SCO Unix system and of all the hardware in the office and pro shop, terminals, printers, cash drawers, etc. As the course grew they expanded their dining and bar area. Four more terminals and cash drawers. If any of us drew an onsite call for them you timed it to get there a little after 13:00. The golf course management plied us with all sorts of eats and beer. Sometimes the simple task of re-crimping an RJ45 connector on a cable would take 2 or 3 hours. And I don't know how many PM's on printers and the server inadvertently never got written up on a work order. That, my friends, is fringe benefits.

Dang! You guys had it good. I did used to pump gas many years ago. I remember one time a friend and I borrowed my fathers Jeep, and went 4 wheeling with a case of bottles in the back. We broke every bottle, and when I got to my gas station to work, I cleaned out the broken bottles, and slurped up the beer. Not 30 seconds after I had disposed of the last of the evidence, my father pulled up at the gas station. He asked me how I was doing, and I told him I had just washed the Jeep! He was very pleased. Whew!

Reminds me of my first 'real' job when I was 16. Went to work for the local truck stop as a pump jockey. At that time, the mid 70's, Coors beer wasn't available in Nebraska. But lo and behold, a few times a week a big Coors 18-wheeler would pull in for fuel. The norm was to wash windshields, check oil and tires, and fuel 'em up. But one of the first lessons I was taught was to WASH, I repeat, WASH the ENTIRE, I repeat, the ENTIRE Coors tractor. In return the driver would slip around to the back of the trailer and sneak us a case of Colorado Coolaid. It was liquid gold! We looked like a NASCAR pit crew when one of their trucks came in. Lazy, lethargic fuel island guys shifting into high gear with mops, brooms, towels, and buckets in an all out cleaning frenzy.

Edit. I run my AC 24/7. I am hoping I don't have to in the middle of winter. Piggy throws off so much heat, I will be using my rig to supplement my oil this year.

ahh unless it is fresh off tap, I would pass on the budweiser. Too many other good things to drink I suppose.

I have been pricing pieces to put together a compu-zilla.. And over time I will get there. I tried to buy a case locally, told the guy at the local computer store my basic needs and asked for a 1200w power supply, and they kinda freaked.

heh I will build up from a twin Xeon board.. and it will be piece by piece, and a few months until I do it. But I surfed enough to find what I was looking for.

But for now.. I have money for good beer. Not constantly $4.00 for 18 ounces but.. good. Fosters or better.
