In general you actually step out so you can be sure you are in control and miss the tail of the plane. Planes with rear loading ramps or T tails being the exceptions.

Actually, I was told that it is still illegal in Wisconsin to have less than $1 in your pocket. If you are identified as having no cash, you can be immediately arrested and put in jail as an indigent.

That law was aimed at the Super Sonic Transport. That airplane was going to break windows and crack mortar for its entire flight (planned route between JFK and LAX). So, while it may look silly now, based on the context of the time, it is not silly at all.

That law was aimed at the Super Sonic Transport. That airplane was going to break windows and crack mortar for its entire flight (planned route between JFK and LAX). So, while it may look silly now, based on the context of the time, it is not silly at all.

Well I'd think in light of newer technology the law does need amending then.

Maybe make it based on the shock wave energy at ground level. Which may mean that the plane would have to be at least a specified distance off the ground to fly supersonic. This value would be different per aircraft type.

Not a problem JM7, Besides I've Thunder that was right overhead in the past, It was louder than any pair of Sonic Booms that I've ever heard.

I am willing to believe that. However, you were probably hearing the sonic boom of fairly small aircraft in comparison to the SST or the Concorde. If it was recently, it was likely that the area rule had been used on the airplane, and that reduces the sonic boom dramatically.

Living in LA when the Aurora tests were going on, you could set a watch to the booms. They weren't too particularly loud, but they were strong enough that they set off earthquake detectors and when the earthquake boys published the altitude, direction and speed of the plane someone in Area 51 got chewed down a rank. Schedule went random after that and ended not long after. On the last shuttle landing that came in over LA, I was seriously worried if the window I was near was going to stay in one piece. And yes, lightning has struck within 200 feet and I don't remember it being as bad. Lasted longer but the concussive force wasn't as strong.
