well been to a wedding fair today.

but it was at manchester airport, and i got a vip trip around concorde, we where watching a dress and ahem underwear show and as per most males a corset does wonders, espeacilly when worn by very pretty girls, but kathryn, my wife to be was amazed to turn around halfway through the show exp[ect my eyes on stalks, she certainly got it.
The landing gear, the wings wow, the concorde is a b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l bird, i got to see the inside of it, and inside is not different, if your over 5ft you have to duck to get in the one and only main door, i got to see the cockpit and wow, i just wanted to push that magic button, "MAIN ENGINE START"

but even though she hasnt had any parts taken off her since she was put into the hanger, it would still cost 25,000,000 pounds to get her under her own power and taxi, never mind take off.

To replace her, a very big airline (clue never done anything thing before, red logos, begins with V) is looking into having four built at airbus, at a cost of £300,000,000. each.

basically i got to sit in the engine touch the fan blades, sit in the pilots seat, the jump seats and passenger seats, its tiny but omg what an awesome aircraft.

so sad to see her hidden away in a hanger and not in flight . . . . .

Nice, 5'? I'm 6'1", Low Bridge, Even worse for taller people, If some airline actually wants 4 new ones I'd make some changes(if thats possible), more fuel and stretch the fuselage, Both probably can't be done without more cost, Boeing was designing the Boeing 2707/SST, But for one of these planes to work they need a good sized capacity and the Concorde didn't have enough seats or range, among other problems that is.

Hold the Phone! It seems the Boeing SST could hold as many as 250 People!

The real killer for the SST was the ban on trans continental flights (no New York to Los Angeles flights) because of the problem of broken windows, and damaged brick buildings. It had on massive supersonic shock wave. Since this was the target market for the SST it was promptly scrapped after this ban went into effect.

It seems JAXA is well on track to Making the Supersonic Transport a reality in 2015, A quieter(like any sub sonic airliner), more fuel efficient, plane that can hold 300 people @ Mach 2 at a Business Class flight... If They make It Boeing is in BIG Trouble...

Japanese supersonic airliner is go

@ JM7 JAXA(See Link below) was/is(not sure) doing research into solving this problem and there is the QSST Technology that Lockheed was working on to make the old BOOM sound like distant thunder, Which could fly over the USA with no problem.

As we previously noted, the SST's success ultimately depends on tackling two problems which limited Concorde - fuel consumption and noise. JAXA reckons it can address these through the aircraft's shape, improved jet engines and the use of composite materials. It says the SST will fly twice the distance of Concorde and produce just "one quarter of the nitrogen oxide emissions, and having noise levels no greater than today's conventional jumbo jets*"

We get sonic booms from the Military out here every once in a while, Nothing broken here, Brick or Glass.

Yes, but, the SST was gong to produce a shock wave at least 10 times as strong.

I am not saying that JAXA will have that problem, and we will have to see if they can get the ban lifted.

BTW, it is still going to be much more expensive to fly than a normal sub sonic flight, so there is going to be a market for the slower airplanes for a long time.

We have one of the Concorde's parked up the road in the town I moved from, Filton.

I was lucky enough to watch it on it's final flight in March 2005.

I was working on top of a large hill at one of the radio masts when she approached from the South, very low in the sky.

She had a very distinctive shape. You couldn't fail to recognise her.

There were lots of people down on the run way to watch her final landing. I grabbed some pictures from a guy who frequents another internet forum that I used to own.

She brought most of Bristol to a stop on the day that she did her final flight & landed for the last time.

Beautiful extinct bird shot there Andy, Maybe one day We'll see a faster, quieter and a more long legged SST. The one from Japan sounds good as It's been mentioned that It could hold 300 @ Mach 2 and have the air frame built by, Who else?

Boeing... :D

Oh and I think Seattle has a little bit of the UK there, Waiting for Ya, As I think they have a Concorde on Display there.

I did a semester in London back in the 80's, and made a few trips to the Heathrow Observation Platform (it was an awesome vantage point pre-911). All eyes fell to Concorde when she took the active. There was no mistaking that deafening sound either, you could feel it in your teeth a mile away. She'd do a lazy circle or two to gain altitude... and then bee line it towards the Atlantic (where out-of-sight she was allowed to go supersonic).

Oh and I think Seattle {....} have a Concorde on Display there.

Yes we do ! I took off early from work the day she arrived, and climbed up on a roof with some friends and a transponder to listen as she came in over Puget Sound to Boeing Field (BFI). Museum of Flight should absolutely be on your list for anyone coming through Seattle. Keep an eye out for speakers as well, Sully is giving a talk there tommorrow.
