Nerding out at the closing ceremonies with Captain Kirk. I didn't know he was Canadian, eh?

Just checked the white pages in Windsor Ontario....DEAR GOD they're ALLL CANADIANS.... my dads great grand parents through Canada to Detroit. I'm not sure how many generations they were in CANADA before moving slightly west.

BTW how would one check immigration history from Europe to Canada. The US had a couple of way points like Ellis island and San Francisco that got a majority of immigrants during the late 1800's to the 1930's Does Canada have something similar?

National Archives Canada has some online resources, although I'm not too familiar with them. I think they have a lot of arrival records (from Europe via ship) back to 1867 and earlier. Take a look at http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/index-e.html

They also have some records much earlier than this concerning immigration to Quebec. They don't have much on my ancestors that were watching all this from the beach.

Haven't heard it confirmed, but one report on TV here said the organizers ran spot drug tests before the games started. Of the 20 athletes banned before the games even started, 18 were Russians.

Very interesting article SJ. I like the part about saving frozen samples, for when new detection technologies are developed in the future. That may have a few people worried.
