why settle on the 1156 pin boards?

He probably already owns the CPU intended for this motherboard purchase.

My 2 cents: I spent a fair amount of time reading through TomsHardware before doing my from scratch build last October. I went with 1156 because it met my present need for an i7, helped fit my overall --> budget <--, and the socket seemed easier to work with and less prone to damage.

Also, the advantages for 1366 (for me) didn't warrant a rethink (the extra x16 channels of PCIe off the northbridge (good for multiple GPU), the extra DDR3 channel, and the future cores). Why? Because if I want to upgrade to a new CPU in 2 to 3 years (ie: effectively forego the $$$ I spent on a cpu), then the cost and inconveneince of swapping the motherboard at the same time doesn't really change the math that drastically... plus the motherboard will be 2 years more advanced than what I could possibly purchase today.

I've noticed on a few of the review sites that the i7-800's benchmark higher then their i7-900 counterparts.

if you want the best overclocking mobo you should buy the dfi
http://www.clunk.org.uk/forums/reviews/25961-dfi-lanparty-dk-p55-t3eh9-living-review.html is a little review about that board.

if you are cononcerned about the budget i would go and buy the asus. longer durability, better stability under high voltages and better cooling then the asrock board.

in games yes because of the integrated pcie controller and the dual channel mem controller.

I was going to go with the 1156 and everyone here talked me out of it and into the 1366. I'm glad I went with the machine I built. Would be interesting to see how Mhz for Mhz how the 1156 would stack against it...

EDIT: Don't see any on the front page....

The review that anandtech did lead me to buying the i7-860. In some test the i5-750 bested the i7-920 & those both run 2.66GHz. I don't see a need to go to a 1366 for my personal use as I never plan on scaling up to triple video card or such. In single GPU situations the P55 actually out performs the X58 it seems. With a second card the X58 edges out, but with 3 the P55 doesn't stand a chance. Toms Hardware did a crossfire scaling test to see how well PCIe would do between the two. The analysis shows the results best, but the whole article is good to look over.

Ok, Lets see cost does play a part here and so thats that, I found a way to have an internal wireless Super G(108Mbps, Not an N card), It involves a mini-pci-express wireless card for a laptop and a pci-e card that has a mini-pic-express connector on It and places for 3 antennas(see below)

pci-e to mini-pci-e adapter card

mini-pci-express card(Super G)

I love when they come up with neat solutions like that. Is it cost effective tho? mini-PCIe cards can be costly.

Yeah the i5 750 and the i7 920 and My QX6700 all run at 2.66GHz, If not overclocked, I don't run at stock speed for long, Stock speed is no fun. Since I don't usually play games, The P55 will do fine and It's supposed to be the successor to what I have now and on the low end, Besides It's Newer Technology...

Yea but the 17 at the same speed will blow the i5 away at seti...Just like my P4 2.8 @ 3.2 is slow compared to my i7 @ 2.66. Bus speed does not tell it all. So if you aren't getting it for Seti seems your QX6700 will do all the the i5 could do.

If you or someone is looking for a good deal on a GTX 275 Mwave has a good one refurbished for 223.99 or something like that....
EVGA GTX 275
I would call to order to make sure they still have it as they will process the order even though it was sold and credit a couple days later....

Oh I hate this, Mwave doesn't like My zip code, I use 9 digits cause the mail requires It out here as there is no delivery to the street address and wouldn't You know It Mwave only uses or allows a 5 digit zip code for ordering/billing, Well I called Mwave about It as they said My address doesn't match(toll free on their dime), So I explained It to them, So I gave them a choice, If they want the order, accept My address as is or cancel My order so I can order from Newegg instead and I said that Mwave needs to fix this problem as the box looks wide enough for 9 digits, but won't accept more than 5, So in maybe 30 minutes I'll know If the order has gone through or If I get to buy from Newegg. As Newegg won't quibble about My address.

I ship out about 20 to 40 boxes a day using just the 5 digit and every order seems to make it.....

Ok in part 2 I'll post some pics and stuff about how far I can get an i5 750 cpu to run at with all 4 cores.

Now I just need to sell off the Asus P5K Deluxe(P35 chipset), Intel Q9300(Quad core) cpu[It can go as far as 3.51GHz, YMMV], Patriot Viper PC2-8500 2GB ram(with Black fins) and the cpu heatsink, fan and thermalright mounting bracket and spring loaded screws. Any takers? Mark? Makes a very good cruncher w/a good psu of course. Cost is $154.98+shipping+insurance+tracking(USPS Priority Mail in the USA) of course.

LOL....
Thanks SJ, but I got all the spare bits I need right now....
I actually have a spare i7 920 that I bought in a panic a few months ago when it looked like the Frozen Nehi might have crunched it's last.

This sounds like a limitation imposed by his local post office, but I don't know if they can enforce it.

All Mail to Yermo goes thru the Barstow CA Post Office, They enforce It, Yermo has only 2 employees there and no delivery trucks as per agreement with the town of Yermo.

I can see that the Post Office requires that but can't see FedEx or UPS honering that as they won't deliver to PO boxes...

Didn't know, But I thought I'd ask at least, So no harm done.

Nope...but if I were to invest in anything right now to get a little more power in the farm, it would probably be a GTX260 upgrade for one of my non-Cuda rigs...
But that's gonna have to wait until I see how my income taxes from last year sort out.

the USPS does not require the 9 digit zip to get something to you. Once a piece of mail reaches its city designation its divided into zip codes, and thn further to routes. While having the extra 4 digits will make it easier to route your mail it isn't vital to getting it there

I will not change My zip code to please them

Zip + 4 has only been around since 1983, so maybe they need more time for their software to catch up. They should have at least compromised with you and been willing to accept a credit card with 4 digits missing. :-)

Kudos for firing the merchant. If everyone did that, they'd have fixed their "works-as-designed" software by now (notice I didn't say BUG as that might create a storm).

Well I just talked to Mwave and they can't push the order thru as Mwave uses a 5 digit zip code and will not change It to 9, So the order is canceled as I will not change My zip code to please them as then I can't buy stuff on ebay that uses the post office as mail delivery out here requires all 9 digits, So Now I get to order from Newegg, So in the future do not mention Mwave to Me ever again... As Yer wasting My time...

Thats funny as every order I have done from Mwave and Newegg they used UPS or FedEx so it was really a non issue that cost you more....But hey if you need that extra code on an order....

lets not forget that zip codes are for the POSTAL SERVICE not FedEx or UPS. UPS and FedEx use the numbers as a convenience but they deliver to addresses not ZIP codes

Bulk mailings do require it. Clearly not applicable to this.
