I know this isn't exactly a number crunching question, however when I post these type of questions in the Cafe, they always move them here :)

Here is the scenario:

I am using Ventrilo (VOIP Chat) and watching a movie on my computer. I want to have the Ventrilo sound come out of my USB Headset, and the movie audio to come out of the Desktop speakers.

Does anyone know what I am talking about or am I just wishing for something that isnt possible?

I don't think it's possible, myself. If you have 2 seperate audio streams going, you can sometimes mute them seperately, I've done it with streaming radio and Youtube videos as they have their own volume controls, but I don't know of any software (or hardware, for that matter) that could split the audio to 2 seperate outputs.

I may be wrong, but I'm sure others will chip in and confirm or deny this.

I haven't used ventrillo in over a year, but I think I remember it having a setting as to which audio device to use. So you could leave your desktop speakers as default for your movie player and set your usb headphones as your ventrillo device.

My memory isn't 100% guaranteed though (I've seen a few parity errors over the years :)

It is possible if and only if one of the two programs lets you specify which soundcard to use. Preferably Ventrilo.
