Trevor is cool.

I thought he was a squirrel until after I posted that pic. Turns out Trevor is a prairie dog. I think he is anyway. Last time I looked at one close was at the Salisbury zoo quite a few years ago.

Virtual Prarie is still running I think.


I wouldn't mind getting some work from LHC. Attached over a month ago and still got zilch, nothing, nada.

And don't expect to ever see another WU either. The project was how to design the machine, not to crunch results.


There were plans to crunch results but someone decided a cluster equivalent to 5000 machines on site was better than 200,000 that could easily be had from distributed computing.

I'm keeping faith that someday they'll come to their senses.

I think they did come to their senses. I think it is all the people who don't understand their crunch requirements that need to come to their senses. A different approach than BOINC is needed for their work units. http://lcg.web.cern.ch/LCG/public/

Dear All; I havent seen it in
writing but it looks like CERN/IT will NOT support the BOINC servers.
We are looking at an
alternative solution locally.
In the mean time I guess you just have to
volunteer for other projects until this is resolved.

The good news is that Beam 1 circulated for 2! turns
in the LHC last night. Now
for Beam 2
and then tuning to stabilise the beams for a
longer lifetime. First collisions in the
New Year we hope.

Thanks for your patience. (On vacation the
in flight movie was Angels and Daemons!
Well it was good to see CERN
and the tunnel
even if the Science is dodgy
to say the least!)

Please bear with us; we too are volunteers.

If you REALLY want to know. I rented a trencher and spent over a year cutting a trench between my house and the nearest community college ten miles away. Then I ran weather insulated cat5 cable and spliced into the network via an 100 yard underground tunnel. Many illegal aliens died digging that tunnel, Gary, and I'm not ashamed to say it was worth it. I have an amazing kick a** Internet connection! :)

You really should have installed at least Cat6e. Cat5 just isn't rated for high enough speeds for Internet2...

You really should have installed at least Cat6e. Cat5 just isn't rated for high enough speeds for Internet2...


Nothing ever gets past you guys here. lol

To tell the truth, the story was totally fabricated.. Yes, I know it's hard to believe I would lie about anything! I'm just as shocked as you are.. LOL And I didn't know enough about networking cable to know cat5 cable wouldn't work with Internet2.

They use it on violins so it obviously carries sound great. Personally, I wouldn't play an instrument that uses cat guts. It's just wrong..
