I broke down. I sucked up my pride, took 15 dollars out of my savings to buy MY OWN laptop that my parents would never be able to take away from me without me calling the cops (muahhahahahaha that day will be so great..... I can't wait to see the looks on their faces when they realize I've basically neutered them both!) Anyway, 15 dollars, took that up to dominick's and got a 15 dollar Visa gift card, which I donated to SETI. Sorry about your mother. It must be a lot harder than losing a pet. --Viz |

Condolences on your mom's passing. Hopefully all the relatives getting together is a silver lining. Maybe all the WU's done while your gone can be donated or in honor of your mom? Could temporarily change the name on the computers you leave running while you are gone. Then change them back. Glad your letting the crunching continue at ANY level while your gone. Arrived home from Utah last night. I fell asleep on the plane and snored loudly embarassing myself and my wife. Wish she had woken me up. Saw the Grand Canyon from the air which was nice as I have driven their many times. Very tough 10 days for me. I will only say that if your parents are still around spend as much time with them as possible. I do not have the words to properly express my thanks to those of you who have offered their condolences. Only a thank you. Many changes in the last 10 days. Looking deeper into the data is always better for the science and that's what it's all about. Perhaps progress is going on behind the scene for wider pipeline up the hill to the seti lab. I hope so. I updated my boxes to the latest NVIDIA driver along with the new 2.3 dll files for CUDA. Nice boost. Financial donations to Seti have always been dissapointing to me. The entire month of July is gone and only 30 individual donations, less than 1 per day. A group as large and diversified as ours should do better in this area, at least this is what I believe. Wish I were really smart and could come up with some kind of incentive for fellow crunchers to donate financially. Simply too many "takers" and not enough "givers" just as in other areas of our society. I just dream of what Seti could be and am not satisfied with the way it is. Currently searching a very small portion of the sky with Arecibo, what about the remaining 90% of the sky? Some here have donated for the first time recently and have their stars. Thank you. Geek@Play, Sorry to hear about your Mum. In thinking about her, and her life, you will gain a better understanding of life yourself. Life is indeed precious, maybe that is why we do SETI@home. I have donated to SETI@home from the time i started. I do it because i believe in the science. Many many people will never ever put payment details or credit card numbers or their personal information into the internet for any reason. Its plain fear of security. Sorry for your loss Geek@Play, John. |

Doing an international donation is a bit tedious for me, but our team is doing a donation challenge, which is ideal (and apparently not only for me, since I am amazed by the amount already donated to our team: $ 673). It doesn't get me a green star.. but the giving part is more important ;) The SETI@Home Gauntlet 2012 april 16 - 30| info / chat | STATS |
