So I swapped one disk array for another during the database upgrade, which was successful. But then a third disk array (holding all the uploaded results and work to download) decided to freak out and hang everything.

I'd like to say these were two separate events, but I think the increase in database throughput eventually resulted in more i/o to the upload/download array than it could handle.

Of course this happens after I leave the lab (or at least I didn't notice). I couldn't get things to reboot from home, so I had to come back up here to deal with it. At 11:00pm, the lab is dark and scary and lonely.

Anywho, I got the machines to play nicely again but since I hard reset the disk array the RAID on that device has to resync, which'll take all night. So no work for anybody right now. Please go check out one of the many other wonderful BOINC projects to keep your computer busy in the meantime.

Does the up/download array contain the XML files? I noticed today that my stats site hadn't updated itself in the afternoon like it usually does and upon investigation, the /stats/ directory is emtpy and all the files are in the stats_tmp directory which would seem to indicate that db_dump took a dump (pun intended) in the middle of execution. Mind giving it a swift kick in the rear? :)

There's been a problem with file uploading for the last few days. We think it is fixed now. Our apologies if you lost work because of this.

October 6, 2004
The disk array holding the upload and download directories failed yesterday and needed to be rebooted and resync'ed. The project has been mostly down since last night, but as of now it is back up and running.

Thanks for your Hard Work

Greetings from Germany NRW

I have just lost three results because the server rejected the upload file; the most recent failed upload was half an hour ago. I'm now switching to another BOINC project temporarily, until things get definitely fixed.

Although the news item on the front page says that SSL "think this problem is now fixed", could we please have clarification:

By "fixed" does the news item mean:

1) This shouldn't be happening any more (because it is) or
2) The cause has been fixed, but some WUs already distributed will continue to show this behaviour until they work through the system?
