Indeed, great news!

This is proof that "virtual friends" are not only virtual...!

Well......the 'virtual world' is becoming the real world....
Remember the old ATT commercials where the buzzword was 'reach out and touch someone'?

Now we can....in the 'virtual world'. What was once picking up the tphone and dialing a number is now clicking on a link or sending someone else a url to visit....

And you can 'touch' them via ebay, or paypal, or the Seti forums, or just sometimes an email or PM.

But the common thread is communication. It just takes different forms these days.
We have proven that many times here in our Seti community. A kind word, a gesture, an occasional recovered stolen laptop....reaching out and grabbing a thief by the neck is wonderfully rewarding.

A hello, a bit of condolences when somebody is on hard times, a simple thank you for acknowledging someone else's opinions. Or the hard reality of sending money via the internet.

This is the new 'virtual reality'....
It's not your daddy's ATT anymore.

This is true. The viritual world Is a Part of the real world, if we like it or not. And sometimes, like in this situation, it shows it can be a great thing, something we shall take notice of, and remember. Its fantastic to see how
surtain tasks can be sorted out, even over such long distances.. I will once again say thank you, and bless you all. And my prayers to Whiskey. May you recover quickly. Hopefully you can show up again here soon, to keep our mind in focus. ;-) Big hugs!

About myself; Today im finally going back home again, and life will be back to normal in a few days i hope ;-) Lots have happend around me these last few weeks, and the fact that i lost my granddad in the middle of everything else didnt make it easier.. but im ok ;-) And i look very much forward to go back home again ;-D
Cya folks!

Me bad... I didn't remember in time, that I could donate my airline mileage to help with the ticket or get it completely covered. I have a lot of unused miles laying around.

Please remind me, the next time a Setizen needs that kind of assistance. They maybe still be available.

Message 882673 - Posted: 6 Apr 2009, 5:09:37 UTC

From Christine Searle of the UAE Consulate staff, timed at 4.05a.m. this morning

"Good Morning

Just thought you'd like to know, Mr Walker is at the airport, shortly to take off for Manchester.

A few last minute glitches occurred when the original volunteer escort became unavailable, then funds were needed for the flight and expenses of Mohamed from Gulf News who stepped into the breach, but fortunately, G4 provided the necessary funds and storage of belongings until Mr W decides what he wishes in this regard.

It's been very hard work pulling it all together, but would never have been possible without good, kind people like yourselves.

I'm keeping this brief as i'm not in work today, but will send further updates when back in the office

Kindest Regards
Christine"

Hi Everyone,
I got a call from Mohammed at 6.30am this morning. He was at the airport with Johnnie. Mohammed is travelling to Manchester with Johnnie, since the hospital refused to allow him to travel unaccompanied, and there was nobody else.

They were buying chocolate for Johnnie, who wanted some. Mohammed put him on the phone, and I wished him a safe trip from all of us, and asked him to email when he's better. He spoke his usual garbled sentences, sounding VERY happy and excited, and when I said, "Bye, Johnnie," he said, "Bye."

So. There's a happy ending, then. FANTASTIC work, everyone!

Best regards,

Debbie

Flight EK017 arrived Dubai to Manchester at 12.38 BST (13 minutes late). Not heard from Mohammed yet but that is not surprising.

I prayed that the angels would have charge over John, and they did. But don't look towards the heavens, we have angels right here on Earth. Bless all who were involved in such a wonderful, coordinated and humanitarian effort. This helps restore my faith in the goodness that lies within all of us.

I just finished speaking to Mohammed on the phone. He is staying in Manchester. He will let me know exactly where in the Manchester Royal Infirmary Whiskey is staying later after he visits him himself.

Mohammed thinks the weather in Manchester is cold and wet. he is obviously in the right place. The local saying is that if you cannot see the Derbyshire hills from Manchester then it is raining. If you CAN see the hills then it is going to rain.

I am sure that many of you will want to send him a "get well" card at the least and you will certainly need the precise ward to do that.

It is a hospital with the highest reputation. You can get a good idea of it from the hospital website.

From looking at the Rehabilitation Unit part of the website, I guess Whiskey will be in either Ward 30 or 32. I'll let you know.
Dr. Ganesh Subramanian is the head man for the care of stroke victims.

Now, what to get for him? Flowers? Grapes? A box of dates?

You have done such a great job Peter! You should have the biggest hug ever!!!! ;-)
oh..and so should this Mohammed, but I dont know how to reach him with it. lol

I deserve nothing in all this. Entirely down to Debbie and friends in the UAE and most of all to Mohammed. I hope to see him, possibly tomorrow if and when I can get there. Hugs all round then.
Frank of the British Legion in the UAE deserves high praise too because I suspect that long-term care will very much fall on the Legion's shoulders. We buy a poppy every year for Remembrance Day on November 11th and it is good to see where some of the appeal goes. They need and deserve every penny.

Right folks!

After all that, Whiskey has immediately been transferred to Wythenshawe Hospital which is to the South West of the city of Manchester, just outside the motorway box. For me even easier to visit though slightly further away. He is on Ward F4 and I am certain that his care will be just as good as it would have been at the Manchester Royal Infirmary..

For those who wish to send a card, flowers, box of chocolates, Seti T-shirt, bottle of Johnnie Walker, etc., the full address is:

Mr. John G. Walker
Ward F4,
Wythenshawe Hospital,
Southmoor Road,
Manchester,
M23 9LT

I have absolutely no doubt whatsoever that he will be delighted by anyone who cares to keep in touch with him and, what is more, it will be the most powerful medicine to know that he has so many friends out there.
